Mangalore: Urwa Police Seize Panchaloha Idol, Two Swords Worth Rs 3 Cr

Mangalore, Apr 7: A man who was allegedly in possession of an antique Panchaloha Natraja idol, 2 swords and 6 gold coins approximately worth Rs 3 crore was taken into custody by Urwa police near Hat Hill on Thursday April 7.
The Urwa police under the leadership of police sub-inspector Suresh, acting on a tip off were successful seizing the idol and other valuables, while taking into custody Dr Gadiyar. According to police they are of historical importance. Natraj idol weighs 180 kgs. All the coins have ‘Rajamudre’ on their rear.
Dr Gadiyar told police that Natraj idol was purchased by him during 1974 at a sale cum exhibition outlet in Navrathna Hotel. He also said swords were purchased by his grandfathers in Mysore in the year 1954 and that the coins were possessed by his ancestors. However, further investigation is expected to reveal more details.
The police said that the valuables will be handed over to the concerned department.
