Dubai, Apr 10: Large number of fans from all over UAE witnessed the spectacular mega programme ‘SPB Live In Concert’, on Friday April 8 at the football ground of Indian High School, here.

The concert, featuring Padma Bhushan S P Balasubramanian and his singer-dancer sister S P Shailaja began around 7.30 pm with the introductory note by MC’s Radhakrishna and Meera.

The show started with a beautiful dance number by ‘Show Stoppers’ and was followed by  a melodious Tamil number by upcoming singer Ananthu.  Next was an introduction of the maestro himself SPB, ‘Balu Sir’ as he is fondly called by the film industry.

He was welcomed with great respect by the audience who gave him a standing ovation. SPB bowed to the audience and said “You are the people who have made me. You are the one who gave me this name and fame and I am here to keep up your expectations”. He said that he would try to cover as many of his songs in 14 different Indian languages as possible during the 3-hour event.

SPB began with the award winning film ‘Shankarabharanam’ and then introduced his sister S P Shailaja who has made her mark in the Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada film industry over many years.

This was followed by melodious songs by the duo and other singers. ‘Jothe Jotheali Indu Naanu Neenu’, ‘Noorondu Nenepu Yedaala Dhinda Haayagi Banthu Aananda Dhinda’ were the two melodious Kannada songs where he paid tribute to the late Sahasasimha Vishnuvardhan. Next came the Tulu song ‘Mokeda Singaari…Untude Vaiyaari’ with  a loud cheering noise from the audience ‘Yaan Moolu Kaathondulle Marathe Povana’.

SPB rendered various beautiful numbers in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Tulu which were well-appreciated and applauded by the true audience.  It was clear that the show was full of ardent music lovers and loving fans of Balu Sir.

SPB praised notable musicians like Ilayaraja, Ravi, and RD Burman for their beautiful compositions.

Upcoming singers were given a chance to sing as well as the dancers from Show Stoppers.   Ananthu sang a difficult number by Yesudas ‘Pramabhavanam’ from the Malayalam movie ‘His Highness Abdulla’ which was very well applauded.
The full fledged orchestra ‘Swaraalaya’ from Chennai, proved to be an excellent background support to the show and the local sound system co-ordination was equally superb.

SP Balasubramaniam was later felicitated with a flower bouqet, shawl, and memento by the organizers.  The concluding song ‘Vedam Anouvana Raagam’ from the super hit Telugu movie ‘Sagara Sagamam’ kept resounding in the ears even after the show.

The programme was wholly organized by Denzil Fernandes who has in the past concluded several similar successful shows including the recent ‘Ek Shaam Rafi Ke Naam’ featuring Tagore Das.

Hearty Congratulations to Denzil on this well organised show. it was an excellent job well done till the end.I personally know how much effort he has put in organising this event. Sound sytstem, lighting and seating arrangement was flawless. Unlike so many other shows taking place in Dubai there were no interruptions for felicitations and speeches. Only disappointment was there were fewer number of Kannada & Hindi songs.

Looking forward to more such events from Denzil and also wishing him success for all his future shows.

Being a music lover, this was it... an evening filled with melodies swaying you all throughout. SPB's voice is still echoing in my ears. Our group enjoyed this evening to the fullest... it was our fortune to witness SPB performing Live... and it's a great honour too as we have only heard him on recordings etc..

His voice was sounding .. still so young, still so mesmerizing. His sister Shailaja accompanied him with the same zest.

Since the crowd was multilingual, it was not so easy for the organisers to add all the favourites of everybody, but they did a very good job by ing very popular numbers in each language.

'Jotheyali' truly stole my heart away and 'Mokeda Singari' vowed me which I will cherish for the rest of my life.

The music orchestra from Chennai was par beyond excellence. Music arrangement sounded as if it was the original number, even the minute fillings with flute etc were taken care. The best one was MERE Rang MEIN......... THAT was awesome music. Kudos to the musicians, organizers and the singers.
Dances definetely had scope for improvement. But it was Music which truly truly rocked the evening.

Dear Mr. Shodhan, thanks for the nice report and photos.

Hindi & Kannada music lovers (most Mangaloreans) were totally disappointed by the choice of songs because most were in other languages. Those Hindi sung were also of today’s type which we hear on FM at least 5 times a day on an average – that too were not sung by him. We were expecting many of his 90’s Hindi classics only through which we got to enjoy his melodious voice. The only Tulu song he sang was superb and simply outstanding. Loud clap to him for taking pains to learn and sing that song which he did full justice, by correct pronunciation of words and the notes. Dances were cool.

Talking about organization the master showman Denzil has done it again and in style. Such a high profile show - he did it with so much of an ease. The sound was impeccable so was the seating arrangement. A high point was Mr. Naveen Sequeira’s (of Maaibhaas fame) excellent visuals. The show though started only one hour late, went on uninterrupted till end. We hope Denzil will bring out more of such gigs. Thanks sir.
