Dubai: SPB Wows Thousands of Fans at Mega Concert

Dubai, Apr 10: Large number of fans from all over UAE witnessed the spectacular mega programme ‘SPB Live In Concert’, on Friday April 8 at the football ground of Indian High School, here.
The concert, featuring Padma Bhushan S P Balasubramanian and his singer-dancer sister S P Shailaja began around 7.30 pm with the introductory note by MC’s Radhakrishna and Meera.
The show started with a beautiful dance number by ‘Show Stoppers’ and was followed by a melodious Tamil number by upcoming singer Ananthu. Next was an introduction of the maestro himself SPB, ‘Balu Sir’ as he is fondly called by the film industry.
He was welcomed with great respect by the audience who gave him a standing ovation. SPB bowed to the audience and said “You are the people who have made me. You are the one who gave me this name and fame and I am here to keep up your expectations”. He said that he would try to cover as many of his songs in 14 different Indian languages as possible during the 3-hour event.
SPB began with the award winning film ‘Shankarabharanam’ and then introduced his sister S P Shailaja who has made her mark in the Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada film industry over many years.
This was followed by melodious songs by the duo and other singers. ‘Jothe Jotheali Indu Naanu Neenu’, ‘Noorondu Nenepu Yedaala Dhinda Haayagi Banthu Aananda Dhinda’ were the two melodious Kannada songs where he paid tribute to the late Sahasasimha Vishnuvardhan. Next came the Tulu song ‘Mokeda Singaari…Untude Vaiyaari’ with a loud cheering noise from the audience ‘Yaan Moolu Kaathondulle Marathe Povana’.
SPB rendered various beautiful numbers in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Tulu which were well-appreciated and applauded by the true audience. It was clear that the show was full of ardent music lovers and loving fans of Balu Sir.
SPB praised notable musicians like Ilayaraja, Ravi, and RD Burman for their beautiful compositions.
Upcoming singers were given a chance to sing as well as the dancers from Show Stoppers. Ananthu sang a difficult number by Yesudas ‘Pramabhavanam’ from the Malayalam movie ‘His Highness Abdulla’ which was very well applauded.
The full fledged orchestra ‘Swaraalaya’ from Chennai, proved to be an excellent background support to the show and the local sound system co-ordination was equally superb.
SP Balasubramaniam was later felicitated with a flower bouqet, shawl, and memento by the organizers. The concluding song ‘Vedam Anouvana Raagam’ from the super hit Telugu movie ‘Sagara Sagamam’ kept resounding in the ears even after the show.
The programme was wholly organized by Denzil Fernandes who has in the past concluded several similar successful shows including the recent ‘Ek Shaam Rafi Ke Naam’ featuring Tagore Das.
