Udupi: Kalmady’s Our Lady of Velankanni Centre declared diocesan shrine

Udupi, Aug 15: In a historical event, the Our Lady of Vailankanni Centre at Stella Maris Church, Kalmady, was declared as the diocesan shrine by Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, bishop, diocese of Udupi, on Monday August 15.

Fr Stany B Lobo, chancellor, diocese of Udupi read out the of the declaration letter.

Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo presided over the solemn Eucharistic celebrations. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop, diocese of Mangalore, Dr Francis Serrao, bishop, diocese of Shimoga, Dr Henry D’Souza, bishop, diocese of Ballari, Dr Robert Miranda, bishop, diocese of Kalburgi, Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy, bishop, diocese of Beltangady, Dr Geevarghese Mar Makarios Kalayil, bishop, diocese of Puttur, Fr Stany B Lobo, chancellor, diocese of Udupi, Fr Charles Menezes, dean, Udupi deanery, Fr Baptist Menezes, parish priest, Stella Maris Church, Kalmady, Fr Roy Melwyn Lobo, assistant parish priest and other priests from the diocese and neighbouring dioceses witnessed the historical event at Kalmady.

Sanjay Andrade, vice president, parish pastoral council, Shobha Mendonca, secretary, parish pastoral council, Ida D’Souza, coordinator, 20 commission, Sandeep Andrade, coordinator, jubilee committee and Roshan Agnes D'Souza, member, jubilee committee, members of Parish Pastoral Council, parishioners and devotes were present.

Meanwhile, Stella Maris Church’s golden jubilee celebrations were also held.
