New Delhi, Apr 11 (IANS): Veteran Bollywood filmmaker Yash Chopra, known for his love of capturing Switzerland's picturesque landscape in his movies, became the first recipient of the title of Ambassador of Interlaken, and a special Yash Chopra Suite and Yash Chopra Train were inaugurated in his honour in Interlaken last week.
Chopra, who has shot films like "Faasle", "Vijay", "Chandni", "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" in the country, among several others, was with his wife Pamela in Switzerland to receive the honour April 8, said a press statement.
The 78-year-old head honcho of Yash Raj Films (YRF), one of Bollywood's biggest production houses, was honoured with a silver plaque which will be placed on Hoheweg - Interlaken's famous main street.
The event was hosted by Urs Graf, mayor of Interlaken, at the Victoria Jungfrau Grand Hotel & Spa, where a special Yash Chopra Suite was also inaugurated.
To add to the honours, a Yash Chopra Train was launched as part of the Jungfrau Railways, Switzerland.
According to sources, Swiss dignitaries present at these functions, said that Chopra "has single-handedly influenced tourism to Interlaken as well as all of Switzerland worldwide through his films and has promoted the relationship between Switzerland and India in the most extraordinary way."
Chopra felt very grateful and was ecstatic with the honour.
