Mangaluru, Aug 16: Mangaluru North wing BJP leaders staged a protest at Gurupura gram panchayat on Tuesday, August 16 against the SDPI and Congress who opposed the display of Veer Savarkar poster during Independence Day programme at the Gurupura gram panchayat on August 15.

A case has been filed at Bajpe Police station under IPC section 341, 353 and 149. On August 15, school children displayed Veer Savarkar’s portrait as freedom fighter in a dance programme on the eve of Independence Day celebration. There was opposition for displaying Veer Savarkar portrait and the performance was stopped midway.

BJP Mangaluru North wing general secretary Rajesh Kottary alleged that SDPI activists have stopped the performance of children for potraying Veer Savarkar as a freedom fighter. “SDPI doesn’t have any knowledge about Veer Savarkar and his contribution towards the Independence struggle. SDPI thought that they can do anything when they are in power at the panchayat level. But, we won’t be silent as our sentiments have been hurt. We demand the arrest of SDPI activists.

President of BJP Mangaluru North wing Tilak Raj Krishnapura said, “SDPI has insulted Veer Savarkar. We all know SDPI is anti-national and it has been proved from yesterday’s incident. SDPI is involved in several anti-national activities. SDPI and Congress are two sides of the same coin who are also anti-Hindu.

Mangaluru North wing BJP leaders Sandeep Pacchanady, Ganjimutt gram panchayat president Nonayya Kotian, Yedapadav gram panchayat president Sukumar Devadiga, corporator Shwetha, Bharath Raj Krishnapura, Harish Gatty and others were present.
