Mangalore, Apr 13: The members of Janata Dal (Secular) condemned the constant attacks on minorities by Bajrang Dal and Sangh Parivar activists and expressed displeasure towards the BJP government for not taking any measures to curtail the unlawful act.
The Somashekar Commission report on church attacks was backed by the BJP government which further prompted the Bajrang Dal members to continue their disgraceful acts and harass the Christians, they alleged.
Addressing a press meet here JD(S) member M G Hegde said that it is now become habitual for the Bajrang Dal activists to target all the Christians for any disruptive activities. He said that if they think Christians are trying to convert the orphan children let them take them and provide shelter to them in their homes. How the children who are struggling for a piece of bread on a daily basis can have any idea about conversion or any religion, he questioned.
He sarcastically remarked whether the district police have given any sub-contract to Dal activists. He suggested that if at all there is any incident of conversion or if they really feel someone is trying to convert let them expose the person individually by providing the required proof to the police. It is not right to generalize a category of people if one or two is responsible for the act, he stressed.
Hedge added that the Hindu, Muslim students seek education in Christian institutes and vice versa. Hence these kinds of acts should not be encouraged or supported by anyone. He informed that if at all this is continued, JD(S) will form a youth organization to fight against it.
