Kasargod: Peaceful Polling, 76.6 percent Voters Exercise Franchise

Kasargod, Apr 14: Excepting minor unsavoury incidents, polling for the 13th assembly election held in the district on Wednesday April 13, went off smoothly. 76.6 percent of the electorate from the district came out to cast their votes. The policemen had made elaborate arrangements in the district to maintain law and order during the election, which saw a tough tussle.
Polling was brisk since early morning. Compared to the state level polling percentage of 73.4, the district’s polling percentage was slightly better. 74 percent people voted in Kasargod assembly constituency, while 76.1 percent cast their votes in Manjeswhar constituency. Uduma constituency registered 72.1 percent polling, while Kanhangad and Trikkaripura constituencies recorded 78.8 and 80 percent polling respectively.
Verbal altercations followed by some fist fights between activists of Left Democratic Front (LDF) and United Democratic Front occurred at Kallangai lower primary school in Mogralputtur. The policemen rushed the spot and averted the incident from turning ugly. A LDF agent named Ermu was hurt in the ninth booth of Eriyal. He was admitted into the general hospital in the town. He has alleged that Muslim League activists had assaulted him.
