Mangalore: City Celebrates Dr Ambedkar Jayanti With Reverence

Mangalore, Apr 14: The city on Thursday March 14 celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of Indian Constitution with great reverence.
Dakshina Kannada district administration and DK zilla panchayat jointly marked Dr Ambedkar Jayanti through a function at the Town Hall here. District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar inaugurated the event.
Speaking of the Indian Constitution, Palemar hailed it as unique and respected by the entire world. He also urged the generation next to adopt the principles of Dr B R Ambedkar.
Addressing the gathering, Dr M Kumara Swamy, assistant professor, University College said that Ambedkar had known the importance of using media as an effective tool to fight against oppression. However, had to shutdown the newspaper run by him due to financial crunch. Ambedkar spent his entire life working for the welfare of the downtrodden, he added.
In his address, MLA U T Khader said that if dalits, tribals, minorities, backward classes, SC/STs and others are being able to fight for their rights today, it is due to teh Constitution prepared by Dr Ambedkar.
Deputy commissioner Subhod Yadav, police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, superintendent of police Labhu Ram and State Coastal Development Authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty among others were present.
Mangalore City Corporation too paid his tribute to Dr B R Ambedkar. Dr K N Vijayaprakash, MCC commissioner garlanded the portrait of Dr Ambedkar.
Mayor Praveen among others was present. Paura Karmikas in large numbers too attended the function.
