Tulukoota Kudla's Bisu Parba Celebration
Mangalore, Apr 15: ‘Bisu Parba’ was organized in the city on Thursday April 14, by Tulukoota Kudla in association with Kannada and culture department and Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy.
City mayor, K Pravin, inaugurated the programme. In his inaugural address, he appreciated the initiatives undertaken by Tulukoota since the last 41 years towards conserving Tulu culture and traditions, besides organizing social activities.
Veteran journalist, Malar Jayaram Rai, presided. Entrepreneurs, Kishore D Shetty, and Harish B Karkera, were the chief guests. The chief guests conveyed their best wishes to the people of Tulunadu and organizers of the programme.
On this occasion, ‘Dharmasthala Ratnavarma Heggade Award’ being annually granted by Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade to the winners of Tulu drama contest, was handed over. Abhishek R Shetty and Bindushree Rai K, who scored highest marks in the last PU and SSLC examinations respectively, were honoured.
K Chandrashekhar Shetty was present. Tulukoota president, B Damodar Nisarga, welcomed. Ratnakumar M introduced the prize winners. V G Paul presented the programme.
Ugadi Sahithya Sambrama
Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Sahithya Parishad and Kannada and Culture department jointly organized ‘Ugadi Sahithya Sambrama’ at Sharada College Hall, Kodialbail here on Friday April 15.
Capt Ganesh Karnik inaugurated the proceedings of festivities by lighting the lamp on auspicious day.
Programmes such as Bisukani Darshana, Panchanga Shravana, Poet Meet, Ugady Prize distribution, Ugadi Message were conducted on the occasion.
S Pradip Kumar Kalkura presided. Speaking on the occasion he said that Ugadi festival denotes the significance of self confidence in life. Kani samarpane (offering of Kani) signifies the worship of nature. It is evidence that we prepare for the upcoming rainy season by recalling the overall happenings of the year, he added. He also warned that precarious approach towards nature will put the universe into trouble.
Halady Damodar Shenoy was given the Ugadi award. Vedamurthy Balakrishna Bhat and Shakuntala Bhat couple were awarded ‘Dampathi Puraskara’. Dr Roopashree Kalbavi, 5 times gold winner in medical degree was given ‘Prathibha Puraskara’. Shashikala B, principal, Narayanaguru P U College presided over the Ugadi Poet Meet.
Harikrishna Punaroor, M B Puranik and Dayanand Kateel, Dr M P Shreenath Ujire, Ganesh Amin Sankamar, K Bhuvanabhirama Udupa among others were present.
Manjula Shetty compered the programme. Ugadi songs were sung by Nirmala Nagaraj and troupe.
