Re-exam to be conducted for SSLC Hindi Paper : Minister

Shimoga, Apr 16, (PTI): A re-examination for SSLC Hindi language paper would be conducted in Mysore district as the answer papers of students from there had been burnt in a fire mishap at a school here, Primary and Secondary education Minister Visveswara Hegde Kageri said on Friday.

Speaking to PTI from Sirsi, he said "I am waiting for the report by senior official of examination section who is conducting an inquiry and we will take the decision soon on the date of re-examination and announce the names of schools where the re-examination will be conducted in Mysore district".

About 4,000 answer scripts were destroyed in an accidental fire suspected to have have been caused by a short-circuit yesterday.

According to Director of Secondary Education Examination Board D.Venakteshaiah, who is conducting the enquiry, sixteen bundles of answer scripts out of 242 were destroyed in the fire. "The number of papers lost could be around 3,500 to 4,000", he said.

Superintendent of Police Shimoga, Raman Gupta said "on the face of it is total negligence of custodian. The custodian knowing well that there was paper and cloth bundles inside the room should not have attempted to allowed welding of wire mesh for the classroom windows, which caused the short circuit".

He said a criminal case had been booked on the basis of general complaint lodged by Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Shimoga, on the incident. A detailed report of the investigation will be sent to government to initiate action against those responsible for the mishap.

Its rediculous and its a shame on the BJP govt and the education ministry. They can't afford to store the answer papers in fire proof facilities but they have enough money to donate in crores to temples. Lot of students and parents are put to trouble. This blunder cannot be justified.

Why students should be punished for the mistake of some irresponsible people. If paper leakout then one can agree for re-exam. This is purely mistake from authorities, so punish them.
Now most of the students may be on vacation, perhaps in outstation, so how the minister will call them. Will the Education minister reimberse them for the cost incurred. I would strongly suggest, if authorities insist for re-exam, then parents of these children should go to court in order to punish the guilty.

Come on..its after all 10th standard & that too Hindhi papers. Why dont you guys just give them first class average or based on their performance of other papers judge their score on an average. Just 4000 papers, 5 teachers 2 or 3 days job, just finish it off guys. Do not give such mental torure for those student who are having some good summer time.

Now dont blame Yeddy for the same, bcz it happend in Shimoga. Superintendent of Police Shimoga, Raman Gupta said "on the face of it is total negligence of custodian. The custodian knowing well that there was paper and cloth bundles inside the room should not have attempted to allowed welding of wire mesh for the classroom windows, which caused the short circuit".
Primary and Secondary education Minister Visveswara Hegde Kageri must resign, this not short circuit its utter negligence. High court should ask for explanation and BSY must ask the minister to resign from his post. Its not a joke.

By far, this is the most ridiculous alternative, for a disaster, for which the so-called cauthorites are responsible. It has already been very tasking and testing for SSLC students, whilst preparing for their exams earlier - this is move is inhumane and selfish.
Are the authorities aware of the agony, these students are going through right now, on hearing about this irresponsible act? Why make them undergo needless torture again?

The incident and subsequent statement by Kageri shows the disregard of these people towards education. Will the students be able to re-write the exam the way the wrote it the first time? It is easy for irresponsible people like Kageri to make such absurd statements. What would have Kageri felt if he were to re-write the exam? Instead why not send Kageri and the custodian of the answer papers to jail for 10 years.

This is ridiculous. What is the need for a re-exam ? Is it the fault of any student ? So many must have already left their native places for summer vacation with their parents. What about such students ?
It is better to evaluate them on the basis of their marks in other subjects or marks obtained by them in class tests. please do justice to the students.

It is a fault of authority and the students should not suffer. All the papers which have burnt should be treated as 70% average and students should be through.
