Bengaluru, Sept 5: The State Government will be moving a petition before the High Court seeking clarifications on the recent judgement on Common Entrance Test (CET) ranking on admissions to professional courses this year, Higher Education Minister Dr C N Ashwath Narayan said on Monday.
The minister held a meeting of the department officials and legal experts to discuss the implications of the recent High Court judgement in his residence in the morning.
Dr Narayan said the High Court ruling to rework the ranking for this year by considering the marks obtained by the 24,000 students of 2020-21 who passed in PUC last year and appeared for CET this year would affect the students who passed and appeared for CET this year. Reworking the ranking by including the students of last year by taking into account their marks and CET marks would not only be an anomaly but amount the injustice to students of this year.
``We will decide whether to challenge the High Court order before a single-judge or to file a writ petition. The advocates will take a call. But our objective is to get the matter resolved as early as possible,’’ the minister said indicating that the officials have been asked to consider the best and quick options.
Implementing the High Court order to rework the CET ranking by considering the cases of 24,000 students of last year, he said would be an injustice to 1.50 lakh students who passed PUC and appeared for CET this year.
Dr Narayan said those who approached High Court have stuck to a technical issue in seeking reworking of the CET ranking by including their cases too. However, what must be borne in mind is that last year was a special case on account of Covid pandemic, he said.
The minister clarified that he has nothing against the students of last year. ``But our intention is to ensure that injustice should not be done to anybody,’’ he said promising to get the matter sorted out at the earliest possible.
Higher Education Department Principal Secretary Rashmi Mahesh, Collegiate and Technical Education Department Commissioner P Pradeep, Karnataka Examination Authority Executive Director Ramya and legal experts participated in the meeting.
