All for Rs 100: After State, Union Govt's Turn to Show 'Generosity'

All for Rs 100: After State, Union Govt's Turn to Show 'Generosity'

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi (SP)

New Delhi, Apr 20: Karnataka government need not feel that it is the only government to have tried to recognize and appreciate the efforts of hard working and brave fire men by doling them with a reward of Rs 100 each. Close on the heels of this news that appeared yesterday, it has become public, that Karnataka government has company in the form of the union department of railways. The railways have shown their generosity towards the railway personnel who saved 1,100 people from a catastrophe at night, by sanctioning Rs 3,000 to 30 personnel. This means that every one of these thirty railways employees will get Rs 100 each for their excellent work.

It may be recalled that a fire tragedy had occurred in Rajdhani Express train from Mumbai to New Delhi at around 2.30 am on Monday April 18. The fire, which was started by short circuit that occurred in the kitchen section of the train, spread to neighbouring compartments in seconds.

A coach of Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express in flames near Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh on Monday (Apr 18) early morning. Four coaches of the train caught fire

30 railway personnel, who were in the kitchen and pantry car at the time, had immediately pulled the chain. By the time the train came to a stop, they had entered the endangered compartments, woke the sleeping passengers up, and ensured that every one of these passengers safely came out of their respective compartments before fire could harm them. At the same time, they cut of the link of the compartments that had caught fire from other compartments, to ensure that fire did not spread further.

While two of the compartments of the said train were completely charred in the accident, two more were partly burnt. Miraculously, none of the 1,100 people travelling by the ill-fated train had suffered even injuries.  Credit for this entirely goes to 30 kitchen staff of the train. They put their lives to stake for saving the passengers.

On Tuesday April 19, the railway officials generously announced that they would be rewarding this great work through a prize of Rs 3,000 for 30 personnel. When contacted, the officials said that the quantum of reward may go up after the investigation ordered into the tragedy concludes. They have dismissed the possibility of hiking the prize money during the pendency of investigation.

This is ridiculous and definitely a barbaric act on brave people. It is shame on all responsible authorities for their idiotic approach. The government should not give such a small amount as a reward instead of that they could give an ordinary certificate or at least one month salary as a bonus for their braveness. Do our political people have any sense or are they brainless?

Only one suggestion to all the people who took responsibilities and saved lives of others, please do NOT expect anything from governments but keep your good work and God will bless you and your family.

The problem is not with the Railway Minister. It it the Railway officers like Gen Mgr. or of similar position officers. as they do have some authority to sanction. There is definitely fishy here as I donot believe they sanctioned Rs. 3,000 to 30 staff. It might be Rs. 3,000 to each staff.
We know many cases where the actual sanctioned money was more and the recepient received much much lesser and forced to sign blank voucher.

I dont blame Congress, BJP or any other political party. Let us admit that we Indians as a whole are insensitive to Fire Protection requirements. The story starts from building plan municipal approvals and go beyond. If this is the attitute for fire protection, then how come you can expect recognition for brave fire fighters.
We need an awareness campaign for fire protection. Many buidings come up in the areas without access for fire trucks. Even the basic equipment like extinguishers are not provided in large warehouses or areas where they perform welding resulting in fires. It becomes an issue only if answer papers of SSLC exam get burnt.

Railway Minister Mamatha Banerji has no time to appreciate the work of railway personnel, bcz of elections in West Bengal. This is shame on part of the central UPA govt, shame to Sonia Gandhi she should have been responsible and should have guided the concerned minister. I hope she will look into this matter and do justice with those guys, becoz they saved life of hundreds of people. When we appreciate central govt.’s developmental works, we need to condemn them when they do mistakes.
