Chamarajanagar, Apr 21: Muthulakshmi, wife of dreaded forest brigand, Veerappan, has been exonerated in all the five cases she was facing. As a result, she will be released from Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bangalore on Thursday April 21.
Muthulakshmi had been named as an accomplice in five Out of a number of cases filed against Veerappan in the past. She was arrested in November 2008, and since then, she is under judicial custody. In four cases, she got exonerated because of want of witnesses. She was facing the last case relating to the killing of six policemen by Veerappan’s gang on May 24, 1993, at Rangaswamy Oddu.
After the court found that the case is not backed with sufficient evidences and witnesses, it declared her not guilty. In a judgment delivered on March 16 this year, several of Veerappan’s aides including Papatti, Savariyappan, Eranna, Bonda Basava and Kolathur Mani, were declared innocent by the trial court here relating to a case relating to bomb blast at Palar.
Muthulakshmi said that she was unnecessarily dragged into these cases because of the fact she was the wife of Veerappan. “For the crimes not committed by me, I had to spend two and half years in jail. I always had faith in the god and the courts. Henceforth, I will spend time with my children,” she said.
