Mangalore, Apr 22: The hanging foot bridge between Sultan Battery and Tannirbavi, if constructed as per the revised proposal would add a new record to the city’s glory.
It would turn out to be largest and widest in the world. The revised proposal was sent to the state government by the Nirmithi Kendra.
The state government had already approved Rs 5 crore for the construction of a single lane cable suspension hanging bridge for pedestrians across Phalguni River to connect Sultan Battery and Tannirbavi.
The foundation stone for the project was laid by CM B S Yeddyurappa, but the work is still pending as the earlier design was revised and is awaiting nod from the state government.
According to the earlier proposal, the breadth was fixed to 5 feet that was increased to 10 feet in the revised version and project cost is estimated to be Rs 12 crore.
The revised version of hanging bridge is unique with regard to dimension and shape among other bridges in the world. While the total length of the bridge will be around 500 metres, 250 metres of it will be unsupported. The cables of 120 millimetres will be used in executing the works.
This hanging bridge, when built is expected to boost the tourism potential.
