Victoria Silveira nee Lewis (68), mother of Daniel and David Silveira, sister of Lena Saldanha, the late Moses Lewis, Gracy Lewis, Albert Lewis, Thomas Lewis, Henry Lewis, Annie Pereira, Flavy Almeida, Rosy Picardo, Wilfred Lewis and the late Gerard Lewis, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in NY, the same hospital in which she served as a registered nurse just years before. 
 
The wake will take place on October 14th and 15th from 2-9 pm at Ortiz Funeral Home, 4425 Broadway, New York, NY 10040 phone (212) 942-3700. A mass will follow at 9:30 am on Saturday, October 16th, 2010, at the Church of the Incarnation, 1290 Nicholas Ave., Washington Heights, NY, 10033. Funeral Procession will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery, 72-02 Astoria Boulevard East Elmhurst, NY 11370.

Victoria was born in 1942, as the second daughter of the late Ignatius and Mary Lewis. Victoria, a 41-year resident of the U.S., originally hailed from the small of village of Matpady, where she attended Nirmala Primary School, then National High School. Victoria received her nursing education at the Father Muller School in Mangalore in 1968, graduating with first rank. After graduation, she immigrated to Minnesota, USA in 1969, and then relocated to New York City, shortly after, where she earned an excellent reputation as a skilled nurse. Victoria married Anthony Silveira (from Divar, Goa) in 1972. Victoria was the first from the Holy Family Church in Brahmavar to come to the States. Within a few years, she assisted 10 of her sisters and brothers in immigrating to the US.
 
For Victoria, nursing was not just a profession, but a way of life. Victoria touched and healed the lives of all her family and friends with her remarkably kind and generous nature. She will be remembered eternally for all the blessings that she has bestowed on us all.
