Imagine a multi-sensory atmosphere which is like 'no place else on earth,' totally unique and wonderful. That is perhaps the best way to describe the amazing Air Zoo aviation history museum in Portage, Michigan, USA.
People who visit this museum call it a ‘hidden gem’. A splendid treat for all ages, the Air Zoo features history's greatest aircraft B-25 and one of the only two Lockheed SR-71B Blackbirds in the country.
The Blackbird weighs 59,999 lbs when empty and 1,72,000 lbs when gross. It is the fastest air-breathing aircraft in the world. The Kalamazoo Air Zoo is an indoor vintage airplane museum that also features some hands-on activities and rides for the kids. Children enjoy riding the simulators and watching jaw-dropping and tear-jerking movies in the Missions theatre.
In addition to more than 50 historic aircraft, the Air Zoo also features amusement park-style rides, full-motion flight simulators, 4-D Missions Theater, Magic Planet, Space Ball, Zero-G Experience and much more. It also offers a variety of educational programmes, summer camps and overnight camps.
The simulators and the astonishing movies in the Missions theatre attract a big number of tourists from within the USA and abroad.
It is one of the best air museums in the United States of America. Though not the largest, it does a fantastic job of balancing fun and education.
