“Keep success below your knees and not let it get on to your head,” says Darshan, the most bankable and consistent stars in the Kannada filmdom today. He was here to attend Star Nite organized by Kadri Cricketers to mark mosaru kudike celebrations.
In an exclusive chat with Daijiworld.com, Challenging Star as he is popularly known reiterated that success for him is a very relative term, which he owes to his fans’ unflinching support. "All that I know is I am here to entertain my fans and keep cash registers ringing," he adds. The star also is vary of experimenting with roles deviating away from his action-oriented subjects, for he feels when a pattern is working he would not like to disturb it. “Moreover, my fans love my image and those investing on me bank on it," he reasons.
The fact that even after a decade in the industry he enjoys popularity and grand opening to his films has also further reinforced his decision. “It is not that I have not experimented in the past; but those films, be it be Namma Preetiya Ramu or Navagraha, were not well-received. So I decided to do what my fans expect from me. However, I try to do diverse role within a limit like my upcoming movies Saarthi, Chingari and Prince. While I play a jovial role in Prince, Chingari deals with human trafficking," he says, and adds, "After completing these assignments, I am moving to my dream project and career milestone, Sangolli Rayanna that has a historical theme."
Query him of his attractive personality; he just brushes it aside stating that it is part of his job with strikingly similar attitude towards work as that of Salman Khan's. “Once I am in this field of entertainment I should respect my fans. When I pack a punch on to 10 people the audiences should be convinced. Hence I believe in disciplined work-out and timely make-over, for it is my fans who have made me what I am today. I also need to ensure that I don’t squander producer’s money," he says as a matter of fact.
With this the topic veered to how the real-life Darshan is like. “I am a very normal guy, jovial and happy-go-lucky. I am completely a family man. It is a misconception that I am arrogant, which may have had its origin due to my reel-life toughie roles," he clarifies.
"I also love animals and automobiles. In fact, animals and cars are the only two non-film passions in my life. I own Audi 6 and H3 Hummer already and joining this would be Audi Q7," he informs. "I do not have a private zoo as people think, but a private stud in Mysore and about 12 varieties of birds including ostrich and peacock."
