Somewhere Along the Way...

July 30, 2011

It’s half past eleven and I’m sitting on my bed listening to a favourite Bollywood track. It’s a ritual, this listening to favourite songs before I call it a day. The song revolves around two individuals who were destined to meet. They begin an unexpected journey together but towards different destinations and somewhere along the way they realize that the journey has begun to seem more satisfying than the destination would have once they would arrive at it.

The lyrics of the chorus have left no stone unturned to wrench my heart to its core. I relate to it because I’m experiencing a similar situation in my life at the moment. We both had wanted different things from each other when we had started our unexpected journey together. Each day we’d inch forward one step at a time. Sometimes we’d walk hand in hand and sometimes He’d carry me on His shoulders. Somewhere along the way the destination became immaterial.

We started enjoying our journey together. I started enjoying our journey together. All those moments I thoroughly enjoyed; He’d explain to me The Word over a cup of coffee; He’d talk to me out of the thunder before the rains; He’d give me a hug with my mother’s arms; He’d plant a kiss on my forehead with the strong and yet so gentle sunshine to wake me up each morning…

Love is definitely above all. It can conquer everything. Gautama Buddha rightfully says, “Hatred will not cease by hatred, but by love alone. This is the ancient law.” It was love that made us. It was love that saved us and it continues to save us each day. All we have to do is embrace it. A relationship is many games of badminton. It can never be games of squash. We always need someone to stand at the other end and smash shots back at us; Two-way traffic as they call it. We need to reciprocate the love He shows us by talking to Him and spending quality time with Him. Talking to Him is prayer and prayer has the power to transform our worries into worship. In time, our worries like our destinations, sublimate along the way and all that remains with us is the worship, the journey.

Hum jo chalne lage, chalne lage hain yeh raaste…haan haan haan manzil se behetar lagne lage hain yeh raaste!
