Is the world a fan? Yes, I feel it is. As human beings we aspire to have fans in our residence, in order to get a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere. Whereas God created this cosmos like a fan in order to get a comfortable time through glorification from all living creatures. He gave a significant place for humans, here on earth.
Humans were the cynosure of all His creation. In the beginning human beings had an intimate relationship with God. It gave a pleasant and peaceful time to God. Then there came a moment the world fan was struggling to move, as selfishness was an obstacle to give glorification to Him. In fact, it is the apposite to our reality.
One day I heard a monk say that he had been praying for years to know the real reason for atrocities in society. He said, "S-E-L-F-I-S-H-N-E-S-S is the back bone to our entire dilemma". Indeed, it is true. I witnessed this selfishness in my hometown when a child said to his father, "Daddy keep entire your assets and property in my name, not in Ravi’s name" (Ravi was his brother). This small instance reveals how selfishness has taken a deep root even in children. It is shocking to see that children are being affected by this selfishness. Who is responsible for all this malice? Obviously, we are the ones. Our way of life is revealing itself through our children. Children and youngsters have been brain washed by society.
You may think I am a pessimist. But rather than being content with vain glory, I feel we need to correct ourselves and the society wherever we are lacking. Only then can we live a better life.
India has been developing in many fields like technology, education, economy and so on. Indeed, it has brightened up our society in many ways. On the other hand, we see poverty, terrorism, violence, scams and the classic example is corruption which is genocidal in the country. It is a pathetic situation in India that from leaders to children everybody is craving and hankering after their wants and needs than the needs of the society. You and I are in the same boat. Fortunately we are aware of society’s functioning. It is a pandemic disease that we face now. Keeping all these and more things in mind can we think God is having a pleasant and comfortable time? Every day He does His chore of healing a broken humanity. The world fan, which is supposed to give glorification, has broken in parts.
My dear friends, it is easy to read and watch happenings around but it is very difficult to stop them. Of course, these things can be thrown out from society, but only when we are ready to take risks to change ourselves. "Be the change you want to see in the world", said Mahatma Gandhi. The world is in need of liberation from evil deeds. Let us wake up from slumber to create a better world, where every person gets his or her dignity and identity in society.
Finally, I would like to conclude remembering the people of Somalia, Kenya and other places facing an abject famine and abject drought. My heart stopped for a moment when I saw a contradiction of joy and suffering, abject poverty and luxurious life, adequate food and lack of it. Perhaps, again God is at work. He does not have a pleasant and comfortable time. Can we become His co-partners in helping His work? We need to bring self transcendence instead of selfishness into our society.
