Small Things Do Matter

Small Things Do Matter

Life is not just about an achievement or name

Money, luxury or a beguiling fame

It is all about those small and ordinary things

For a contented living, they lend wings

In our day to day life we find

Many small things of this kind

Which can create a paradise on earth

For exhilation there is no dearth

The gentle caress of your mother when you are sad and morose

Heals a thousand wounds in its course

A lean against the strong shoulders of your father

Gives the assurance of security like none other

The tender smile of your baby on a weary day

Throws away all your fatigue a million miles away

The sound of the door bell when your husband returns from office

Sounds more alluring than A R Rahman’s masterpiece

A simple word of praise given by your teacher

Puts you on top of the world and in rapture

A sincere hug given by a dear friend

Takes you a long way and stays till the end

A hot cup of coffee on a cold winter evening

Creates an aura of romance that is enticing

A crispy crunch of a ‘pakoda’ on a rainy day

Generates a heavenly feeling more than words can say

An umbrella in your bag when it pours cats and dogs

Creates that ecstasy of saving you from drenching and also from time loss

The sight of the beautiful blooming bud in your garden

Evokes sweet feelings and gets your bard on

A little sleep that you can afford after the screech of the alarm

Makes you feel vivacious as long as it does no harm

A few lines of passion on your secret diary

On reading brings smiles of great intensity

The taste of the dish that emerged from your husband’s concoction

Makes you go euphoric and full of action

A glance at the photographs of your childhood

Gets you exalted as much as it could

There are several petty things in life like these

Which are more than sufficient to put you at ease

Only thing needed of you is open eyes

For all your happiness there it lies

    Yet another masterpiece, Annie.

As Robert Brault says, enjoy the little things, for one day you make look back and realize they were amazingly big things.”

Life is in the details, Annie. Ongoing small gestures can mean so much more than one grand display of love. Simple small pleasures throughout the day can be far more gratifying that one amazing weekend. When you connect the dots between all these little joys, life seems fuller and more satisfying.

Your poem reminding us to live life keeps us alive and kicking.

Now, please sit with another sheet and pen.

First of all, I have a question: how can anyone keep an entire poem rhyming? This, and the writer's excellent vocabulary, speaks of an extraordinary talent. The writer has wonderfully outlined and reminded us all that life's joys often comes to us in small packages and - if we care to notice - it can keep our cup of contentment running over all the time. I enjoyed every bit of it and it is truly worthy of praise. I think the writer should consider a book with a collection of poems such as this one. Who knows, worldwide acclaim could be just round the corner.
