Take the Lead!

April 15, 2013

We dream of a life of successful living, seeing ourselves being there with a vision, dedication and a sense of accomplishment.

My degree of success is achieved through channel of people in my life. First of all my childhood fantasy and hopes become dream come true through the blessings of my parents. Secondly my bold steps with the support of my husband and children have opened the door of opportunity to success. Nevertheless the dedication of the employees in my organization has all made it a success.

Let me place an eye of experience in organization towards positive psychology which has made the lives of people more productive, identifying their talents. Human strengths at workplace increases productivity and therefore one can eliminate critical factors by eliciting strength of employee through adequate control and provide a challenging work environment.

A team strategy can be used as a work design among individuals. A personnel’s willingness to do a challenging work with a high level of professionalism and encouragement for employees to think of themselves to be creative and develop their skills and ability demonstrates performance and leadership qualities.

Work design

Discuss the diversity at workplace and aspect of organized behaviour. Place an interview with people who have suffered glass ceiling or racial discrimination. Their role can shed light on how people react within groups. Don’t feel lost at your workplace. Place the process keys to doing alternative business viz:

1. Is there a way to alternative business?
2. Where to begin?
3. Who are you & where you’re going?
4. Why are you going there?

Place your mission statements to the a above questions. The aspect of our lives shows powerful; it is a mean to express ourselves than a means to an end. If we lose a sight of it than we are truly lost.

Trust is reciprocal & control is critical

A leader should stand above the rest and to be trusted with a perfect vision, mission and communication skills, solid strategy and being innovative.

Over the time consistency in area of life, even the little things matter and create a difference. It cannot be built overnight as it takes time and effort.

“Trust is reciprocal and control is critical" - Employees trust leaders and lead them to inspiration through a journey of task. Sometimes it works the other way round and it need not always be that one can always trust the other in an organization. Leaders trust is like a dense forest, it takes time to grow and which can be burnt down even with a touch of carelessness.

With the practice of organizational psychology and the science of efficiency one can improve the human relations addressing workplace problems and issues.

When I was studying for my post-graduate degrees in Commerce (M.Com) and Management Science (MMS) from Pune University way back in fact decades ago, I studied and mastered various management techniques and tools such as MBO (Mgt. By Objective), CPM (Critical Path Method), PERT (Performance Evaluation and Review Method), ABC analysis etc, but during my long working career in different companies which spanned over 40 years (mostly in supervisory and middle management roles - both in line and staff functions),I did not get a chance to put in practice or make use any of these tools that I had studied earlier. In fact management would want to know none of these. It was just a matter of simply following and working according to the systems and norms that were already in place. What the managementsts looked for was whether the employee had the basic skills and tenacity to do the job involved, and also they looked for attributes like sincerity, dedication and commitment from their employees. People management skills and working in a team environment was equally important so also always to be in good books of your immediate boss and blindly following his/her instructions, like it or not. When it comes carrying out a particular task, it is just a matter of using ones own intelligence and commonsense, as AD Mangalore commented earlier. I am glad though the author is trying to pursue and implement some of modern management concepts and techniques she had studied earlier.

Common sense prevails, not matter how much one can do and plan and the rest in an organization. Organization talk about efficiency, economy and effectiveness, the so called three Es, jargons.
Everyone in an organization is a leader and everyone is a follower.
Apply common sense, that is the best. It is my belief an organization achieves its objectives when people in it achieve their objectives, its not one way street.
