Pope Francis

With his all-embracing love for Christ and basic human drive

To reach out to the ones in need and help them to survive

He’s won the hearts of everyone especially the weak

Pledging to protect and serve the downtrodden and meek

 

While many can pontificate they can not walk the talk

Like this loving humble Pope who’s bent on shepherding his flock

Reflecting on God’s mercy he’s been showing us the way

Joining hands together imploring us to pray

 

Shunning all the trappings that come with being the Pope

1.2 billion Followers are watching him with hope

With a friendly “Buona sera” he responded to the crowd

Requesting them to pray for him, his head, in silence bowed

 

He chose to ride the minivan and not the papal car

Becoming much more popular than any movie star

Silk and furs are not his choice – his cassock eggshell white

Such modesty in Vatican is not a common sight

 

Carrying his own baggage and even paying his bill

His manner indicating uprightness and good will

Avoiding ruby red boots he seems to fill the shoes

Of a fisherman named Peter whom Christ himself did choose 

 

He chose from young offenders and washed their feet with love

His papacy assuring them of blessings from above

He looked beyond their tattoos and looked into their eyes

Making them feel wanted which took them by surprise

 

He stopped to cradle Dominic, a young disabled boy

A moment bringing all to tears evoking heartfelt joy

Departing from tradition, he even stopped to bless

A Labrador belonging to visually impaired press

 

Building bridges all across, renouncing pomp and show

He reminds us of a man who walked 2000 years ago

His grasp of social issues and his concern for all

Reaching out to different faiths will help us break the wall

 

With simple-minded vision, Jorge Bergoglio

Is like the man from Assisi who chose to serve the poor

Called a Pope of many ‘Firsts” this people centred Pope

Has bowled us with his message – of Love and Peace and Hope

Each installment should be sent within a week of the previous installment. A single poem sent for publication should be at least 3/4th of a page in length. Multiple short poems may be submitted for single publication.
  • All submissions should be in Microsoft Word format or text file. Pictures should not be larger than 1000 pixels in width, and of good resolution. Pictures should be attached separately in the mail and may be numbered if the author wants them to be placed in order.
  • Submission of the article / poem / short story does not automatically entail that it would be published. Daijiworld editors will examine each submission and decide on its acceptance/rejection purely based on merit.
  • Daijiworld reserves the right to edit the submission if necessary for grammar and spelling, without compromising on the author's tone and message.
  • Daijiworld reserves the right to reject submissions without prior notice. Mails/calls on the status of the submission will not be entertained. Contributors are requested to be patient.
  • The article / poem / short story should not be targeted directly or indirectly at any individual/group/community. Daijiworld will not assume responsibility for factual errors in the submission.
  • Once accepted, the article / poem / short story will be published as and when we have space. Publication may take up to four weeks from the date of submission of the write-up, depending on the number of submissions we receive. No author will be published twice in succession or twice within a fortnight.
  • Time-bound articles (example, on Mother's Day) should be sent at least a week in advance. Please specify the occasion as well as the date on which you would like it published while sending the write-up.

    Anita, I enjoyed reading it so much and I would like to express a little bit about Pope francis and the Church. Except, that with about 1.2 billion adherents, the Catholic Church is no ordinary organisation. Its membership is a staggering 17 per cent of the world´s population.Who is at its helm, and how he exerts whatever influence he has over this significant chunk of humanity, is important.
    The election by fellow cardinals of the Argentine, Jorge Bergoglio, as the new Pope, is, and will be, scrutinised for its significance and what it says about the future of the Church.
    That the Pope, who has taken the name Francis, is from Argentina, as the first non-European to have the job in nearly 1,300 years since Gregor II in 731, is of symbolic significance, suggesting a bridging of the Old World and the New World and the breaking of the European hegemony over the papacy. It perhaps say something, too, that Francis is a Jesuit, an order whose practical work in education and with the poor is well known.
    But more important than these symbols are the character of Pope Francis and the attributes,or lack thereof,that he will bring to the job.
    In this regard, relatively little is known about ope Francis, except perhaps, within Vatican circles and his native Argentina, where he was Bishop of Buenos Aires.
    He is a man reported to prefer the simple life. In Buenos Aires, he eschewed the tastier lodges of the bishopric for a simple flat, cooked for himself, and was known to travel around the city by public transport.
    Pope francis wants a Church that serves the poor and downtrodden. But there are complex issues that will confront Pope Francis. The Church cannot sustain a conception of itself as a spiritual and moral conscience of its members, and more, if it fails effectively deal with the moral failings of those within its ranks as exemplified by its poor handling of sex scandals of the past decade and recent leaks of corruption and mismanagement at the Vatican.
    How Pope Francis engages these issues and tackles the Vatican bureaucracy will be closely watched.
    There are lots of Christians and other people all over the world who hope that Pope Francis will have an epiphany, leading to fundamental reforms in Catholicism. Among his first acts was to ask the faithful to pray for him, declaring his papacy a journey of brothers.
    Yes I believe in a renewal of the Church and that will give million of people a meaning of life, that is especially necessary in our current world.

    If 1/3 of the world's population, the Christians won't take the leadership to wipe the tears of the hungry world, 1.2 billion people living with $ 1.25/day according to the recent study done by the World Bank who will do that job? As my friend Kurt Waschnig has clearly stated, GOD is going to use Pope Francis to take the leadership to serve the poor and downtrodden. If we help one poor person in front of us every day who is created in our own image, then miracles will take place around the world and that is the practical Christianity taught by our LORD AND SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST.

    Yes I agree with your point of view my dear friend. Pope Francis wants a Church that serves the poor and downtrodden. He gives hope and lots of human beings will find a meaning of life in our material and globalised world. I am sure there will be a renewal of the Church, going back to the roots.
