We were planning to visit Europe for sometime. Myself and my wife are most fond of flowers and flower gardens we had seen Kashmir valley, Sikkim and Lal Baugh garden in Bangalore and heard about the famous Tulip gardens of Holland.
When we finalised our Europe tour this year I had searched in various sources through net and friends about the Tulip Garden. We made it sure that we can visit the famous Tulip gardens during blooming season.
Finally we could go to the place Lisse about 20 miles from Amsterdam, capital city of Netherlands and landed at “Keukenhof” heaven of Tulips. Once you enter this most beautiful spring garden in the world, you can be really out of this world of hectic routine life.
Keukenhof used to be a hunting place with thick forests and bushes during the 15th century. Herbs from this place were used for the kitchen of King Jacob van Bierren of the area hence the name became Keukenhof in Dutch.
The present Garden was initially designed by well known architects J D and L P Zochar from Amsterdam who are designers of Vandepark there. Flower bulbs (like onions) of Tulip first planted by then Mayor of Lisse during 1949 is now on 64th anniversary.
These fields of Tulips and other flowers like Daffodils, and Hyacinths need proper preparation of soils and suitable moisture and temperature for planting tulip bulbs (like onions). Normally this is done during October and takes hard work of preparation for 10 months to grow. Blooming season is during March to May and lasts only for two months in the year. This year it was from 21st March to 20th May only.
For the last 64 years millions of people specially flower lovers from all the nooks and corners of world have visited Keukenhof and takes the fresh memories from here along withem with millons of photographs. This garden has distinction of most photographed flowers in the world! Govt of Netherlands has taken maximum efforts to make their land a popular tourist destination. Historical windmills, forts,Wineyards, beautiful river cruise,Miniature city of Amsterdam live and Keukenhof Spring garden are major attration of this small country. Very good transport systems road, rail and air are popular and well maintained to the satisfaction of torists.
If you are in Europe during spring time add “Keukenhof” as a must in your itinerary.
There is much more one can see when visiting this most beautiful spring garden of the world than what one has seen little glimpse of in Amitabh's bollywood movie “Silsila”. One can enjoy whole day with over 800 different colors and types of Tulips grown neatly blooming with smiles on them as well as on visitors face with satisfaction!
So plan your Europe trip only during the Tulip season. Many tourists specially from India are not aware of this best of Tulips which bloom during spring time for a particular period. So choose the itinerary of a travel company which has included ‘Keukenhof’ and do not miss it for any reason. Be very particular and plan your Europe tour make it unforgettable with flowers!
