Do you watch Kaun Banega Crorepati? Well, I’m not really a fan but then I’ve always loved their quirky advertisements; you know, that moment when Amitabh Bachchan says, “seekhna bandh toh jeetna bandh”. True that; life is a constant learning process; and I’m not talking about just formal education but also ‘life-lessons’.
It’s been slightly over a year since I’ve written to daijiworld.com and life’s been no less than a Bollywood masala movie in these past 12 or so months! I’ve become more of myself with every experience some of which have taught me things about myself that I didn’t even know existed! I’ve been contemplating for quite a while now to contribute an article but couldn’t quite put a finger on what topic to write about. Just this morning it occurred to me why not share two beautiful lessons life has taught me in this past one year. Now, I’m no life-expert; but hey, you never know; maybe you’d strike a chord with me somewhere!
I was recently watching the Bollywood movie ‘Hum Tum’ (yes I’m a BIG Bollywood fan!) and in one of the scenes Kiron Kher tells Saif Ali Khan, “zindagi jeene de vaaste hoti hai, puttar” – life is meant to be lived. We’re constantly trying to tightly hold our future in our fists without realising that our present is slipping away through the gaps in between our fingers. Planning for a good and secure future is not a bad thing but it’s the over analysis that kills it. Let life happen; give life a chance to lead you; strike a balance between being a control-freak and being open to serendipity. Paulo Coelho once quoted, “How much I missed, simply because I was afraid of missing it.” Life is NOW and the best we can do is to live in the moment.
I’ve always been someone who weighs the success of my relations based on what I can do for the people I care about. It doesn’t have to be something big; just those small sweet things like sticking a love-note for mom and dad on the fridge or cooking something nice for my colleagues or typing a warm text message to a close friend who is sitting right next to me. I’ve realised that though expressing love through action is a good thing, constantly expecting your loved ones to validate you isn’t. When I say validate you I don’t mean appreciate you but more like acknowledge or assure you that they still feel loved by you and know that you care. I’ve realised that me doing my best is all that matters; the people close to my heart will feel it. Sometimes doing the very best may not suffice; but then that simply doesn’t matter. You don’t have to go out of your way to show that you care. Just be you; in fact just be and the rest will take care of itself.
"It matters not who you love, where you love, why you love, when you love or how you love, it matters only that you love" - John Lennon
