A Work of Art - The Heart
Always refer back to the heart
It is where the world began
- Jenny Bornholdt
Have you watched an artist when he’s lost and deep in thought?
His synapses all fired when he’s in a whirlpool caught
His passion all ignited with random visual cues
He’s unrestrained and charged up like a detonating fuse
The fire in his belly grows while switching mental gears
Creative juices start to flow and he just perseveres
The inner child in him untapped his soul begins to fly
Imagination running wild he soars towards the sky
Juggling with his ideas he’s blinded by a light
Like Van Gogh’s glorious Sunflowers on a starry starry night
Seduced by restless thoughts he moves into a higher state
Of theta brain wave consciousness where logic can't dictate
Drunk with joy yet calm and still he feels just like a child
Who’s on a roller coaster ride that’s magical and wild
His amygdala foxtrots while he mulls over his thoughts
Sifting through them patiently while joining all the dots
Fusing all known elements the artist in him speaks
Unlocking deep connections while he works with fresh techniques
And then when least expected he hears a quiet voice
An epiphanic moment when he’s all composed with poise
In this "Mona Lisa" Moment, he creates his masterpiece
He almost shouts "Eureka" just like Archimedes
Combining grace and beauty with aesthetic appeal
Sheer elegance with heart and soul is what he will reveal
He sees the empty canvas while his soul in stillness waits
His heart and mind in harmony, the will of God sedates
Call him Christ or Allah, Brahma, Buddha or Ram
They let him speak - The power of Love – Namaste or Salaam
Embraced by waves of goodness from an omniscient force
The artist makes connection with a primordial source
Like Rodin’s “Thinker” representing lofty intellect
Or art in Sistine Chapel our faith trying to resurrect
The block of marble beckons while his talent he’ll unwrap
With a full-length cradled Jesus lying in his Mother’s lap
The only piece of artwork Michelangelo had signed
The Pieta – A masterpiece – so skilfully designed
Evoking feelings all sublime this sculpted piece of art
Symbolises purity targeting each heart
Like the Rock hewn smiling Buddha chiselled out from mountain rock
Or Lord Shiva of Murudeshwara where pilgrims worldwide flock
The deft hands of the artist with craftsmanship and skill
Can fill you with emotions that electrify and thrill
Like the Taj Mahal – which makes you feel you’re face to face with God
The symbol of enduring love – you can’t help but applaud
Monet’s Water lilies or Edvard Munch’s Scream
Are paintings I see online - I just click the mouse and dream
I get into the Louvre, into MoMA or the Met
Date Rembrandt and Raphael and Warhol with no regret
And then I travel back in time to caves in Southern France
Where those prehistoric paintings always leave me in a trance
As for the greatest artist who made us in his mould
He blessed us with the best of traits - his love he didn't withhold
With 15 billion brain cells all linked in circuitry
He hoped that we would learn to live in peace and harmony
Our auricles and ventricles which pump out love and hope
Is the greatest ever work of art - the one which sees us cope
