True Happiness

Jun 20, 2020

All of us lead a busy life. Competition, change and success are the words that have made man a ‘busy beaver’. Perform or perish is the reminder that strikes like lightning from one’s cradle to his grave. Yes, it is success we all are craving for. This search for success has made man cold-blooded.

Emotions like love, appreciation, happiness, hope, trust have no place in our lives. These have now been swapped by anger, anxiety, jealousy, frustration, and depression. The definition of the term ‘success’ seems to be ‘conquer on the materialistic world’. In this process, we forget who we are and where we are going. Is this what we have come for? Is this the state in which nature wanted man to be in. God made man be like him and enjoy his creations. But are we enjoying or is this true happiness? Cravings on earth have engrossed man in the materialistic requirements forgetting his creator and the purpose of his arrival on earth.

Gaining experience on earth for spiritual progress has become an unheard voice of the conscience. Priorities have changed and so has the values. Cemeteries or the burial grounds are good reminders of our actual priorities. Those there now in eternal sleep were the ones who once assumed the whole world was on their shoulders.

People say ‘life is a journey from birth to death’, ‘B’ to ‘D’. Where birth is the beginning and Death is the Destination. One has to answer the question of what is between B and D. The answer is ‘C’. It is a simple but most complicated word ‘Choice’. Our life is just a matter of the choice we make. Every living creature after birth has to go through a life cycle. Human beings also go through the cycle of birth, childhood, adulthood, old age and death. This cycle can also be defined as the cycle of birth, ageing, sickness and death. Though the stages are the same, it is the quality of each person’s journey that is entirely different from one another. Everyone wants to have a happy life but the reality is that some people are more contented than others. Most people are always worried and occupied in life. That is because most of us feel that they know what is required to be happy. But the concept of happiness has some surprising truths.

True happiness is something that comes from within, the inner conscience. True happiness is the state of mind, an inner quality that comes from the enjoyment of one’s self. We are so anxiously concerned about the future that we live our present but forget to enjoy our present. That conscious feeling of living and being observed by the society has given us pleasure, power, and possession but lack of peace of mind. We are so conscious of other’s opinions and views, about what people will think of us, we have given up the things that make us happy. Along with this life’s path, we have forgotten to laugh and love ourselves.

Each of us remembers and cherishes our childhood days, an unforgettable magical period of our lives, where life was simple. There was no reason necessary to laugh, forgive and forget. We lived a simple and carefree life, a true reason behind real inner peace and happiness. We have suppressed that happy child for the materialistic things defined as happiness by society. When the riches of the world fail to make us get the peace and happiness we are craving, we realize the emptiness and start missing the little child within us. To enjoy life to the fullest it is necessary to keep the child in us alive. Remember as a kid how simple it was to let go of things and to live life without worry. Sit silently and do self-searching by taking ten minutes from your complicated life and find that lost child within you. Recall the little things that once made you happy. Learn to live because life is too short. Do not regret on the death bed the things that should have been done when healthy.

Nature has given equal time and opportunities for all. Nobody gets a minute more or less. One is a looser if he gains the entire world but loses his soul. Making yourself presentable in front of your creator is the ultimate truth. Therefore, understanding the priorities, organizing the time, channelizing the energy for the right purpose, and accepting that no soul is lucky but is blessed is the key to spiritual success. Living life like a child again by adopting the carefree approach is the Choice to be made between Birth and Death to be truly happy.

Well written Ms. Sonia. A good read. Your article reminds me of the short story "Three questions " written by Leo Tolstoy. The three questions are - what is the most important time? Who is the most important person? What is the most important thing to do? The answer goes like this - The most important time is NOW, the most important person is the one whom we are at present, the most important thing is to do good to that person.
The analogy of Birth, Choice and Death that you have mentioned is quite interesting and thoughtful, which has propelled me to write the following lines -
A person's life from BIRTH , led by making appropriate CHOICES till DEATH, will be ETCHED in everyone's heart FOREVER. (A, B, C, D, E, F!)

Thanks Dr Sonia Noronha for such meaningful insights.

True Happiness is also measured by the Extent One can withstand Unhappiness !

The mantra is to a little sad when everythng is going superfine and to be a little happy when it is not .

Very meaningful and very much needed these times also

Holy Scripture is clear about childlike faith in God which is a must to attain peace also to enter the kingdom of heaven.

And he said: “Truly I tell you,! unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3.

    But,

Why love yourself is bad and how to correct it?

    Interesting Divine quotes...

"Your love for God must not be contaminated with self-love. You love yourself up to the point of becoming selfish, which is really bad. But let this love of yourself be the measure for the love you must give to your neighbor. When you pray for your desires, make this also a prayer for your neighbor.

You cannot love me unless you love your neighbor, therefore start by forgiving those who have wronged you, be kind and compassionate, be generous. Remember that you will find me very easily in the needs of others.

Start a new life making up for the love you have denied me, love me and in this way you will experience my unfailing infinite love."

    God bless and keep writing.

Thank you, Dr. Sonia, for reminding the readers what true happiness means! In today's materialistic world, most of us have made a choice to put money and job on the pedestal above all other things, rather than celebrating the short life that we live on this beautiful planet. Currently, there are 7.7 billion people living on Earth and yet, we are all unique in so many ways! No two fingerprints are ever exactly alike in every detail, this even includes identical twins! This is such a great creation story designed for us not to compete with each other but to live in communion with each other honoring each other's lives, for each and everyone has been given different talents to live happily celebrating life! Therefore it is time that we revisit such a great creation glory, especially in the midst of the current pandemic, and find a way back to our originality to start living again in happiness in all circumstances and in all days of our life!
