This Christmas I’ll Give You My Heart

Deep within my subconscious I’m painfully aware
That my Christmas is less “Jesus” and more Vanity Fair
Gifts under the Christmas tree to celebrate with all
Glazed ham, turkey, roast chicken as well as alcohol

My shopping lists not ticked off I head off to the store
I spot a dress I can’t resist though I don’t need more
Clad in rags and malnourished I hear a beggar cry
Ignoring him I make a choice once more to crucify

To make a fashion statement I rush to get this dress
Exclusively designed I know this outfit will impress
I overhear a woman talk about her recent loss
While passing by a Church I bow and look up at the Cross

I make a mental note to buy some jewellery and shoes
Accessories without which I may not make the news
A blind man trying to cross the street invokes the name of God
Rushed for time, I close my eyes, my whole existence flawed

55 going 56 Youth not on my side
Sagging skin and blemishes are what I hope to hide
My anti-aging wrinkle cream helps me to conceal
A superficial shallow me while in Church I kneel

Seated in the front pew my mind begins to drift
Suddenly I know and feel something inside me shift
I dream about St Peter and hear a rooster crow
And see the faces of the three whom I chose to ignore

Thrice denied, now “Petrified” I know that I have failed
I look up at the Crown of thorns and the body nailed
I think about the price he paid to take away my sin
While I “Iscariotted” like they did in Sanhedrin

I forgot that He’s the Reason – the reason for the Season
Instead I followed Caiaphas who wasn’t tried for treason
My Rolexed hand reminds me that I almost lost the plot
30 quids of silver and like Judas I was bought

My love affair with Prada which the devil loves to wear
I hope to replace quickly with sincere earnest prayer
Come what may, I’ll follow him with all my heart and soul
And ask for his forgiveness while his praises I’ll extol

I’ll reach out to the stranger and the prisoner in the cell
And not the escalator that will take me straight to hell
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John have taught us how to cope
His story (history) - One of truth and love is resurrected hope

Heart touching Anita.....the fallacy of commercialisation that has made us loose touch with humanity and we wander around in this jungle looking for happiness without sharing love and compassion with manking and everything that God has made.
