Goal Setting

‘A man without goal is like a ship without rudder’ - Thomas Carlyle

The goal setting procedure is quite straight forward. It’s almost like your dream list. Having goals for things we want to do and working towards them is an important part of the human being. Psychologist will tell you that you use, at most, only 10 percent of your true potential.

Writing out your objectives helps you to stay committed to them and helps you organize your thoughts. Writing down your goals on paper that forces you to get down to specifics. So, it would be more challenging to deceive yourself or anyone else.

Your goals and priorities are grounded in reality. It is a basic time management principle to prioritize the tasks, and concentrate your attention fully on the first one before moving to another one. When you have lots of goals you have to achieve but feel difficulty in, manage, you are really struggling which is more important and urgent. During this time prioritizing the goals definitely helps you to overcome confusion.

We must have clear and specific goals that are challenging and monitored with a regular feedback and progress. Clarity, commitment, challenge, self-confidence and concentration will be the key concepts for accomplishing your goals.

Yes, indeed. Our goals and priorities must be grounded in reality, as you have rightly said. What happens if the goals are realised? Then do we shift the goal posts? Though not exactly related to what you have written, I remember the goals announced before the famous DeMo, which kept on changing and ultimately, nobody knows whether the objectives were met.
