Kalmadi Sent to 14 Days Judicial Custody

New Delhi, May 4 (IANS): Former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chief Suresh Kalmadi was Wednesday sent to 14 days judicial custody by a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court here.

Special Judge Dharmesh Sharma allowed the CBI's appeal to send Kalmadi to jail. It also sent his two aides to judicial custody.

"The court has ordered judicial custody for Kalmadi, and his aides A.S.V. Prasad and Surjeet Lal till May 18 in connection with alleged irregularities in the contracts awarded for the 2010 mega event," an official from the Special Court said.

Kalmadi had been sent to eight days police custody April 26 on charges of conspiracy and cheating under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to the CBI, Kalmadi has been arrested for buying TSR (timing scoring and result) equipment from a Swiss firm, Swiss Timing, at inflated price of Rs.141 crore for the Oct 3-14, 2010 CWG.
