Bangalore, May 9: Malnad regions of the state have earned the reputation of providing succour from the simmering heat of coastal belt and plains. To escape from summer heat, people normally seek to rush to these places during summer holidays to escape from heat, and spend time there. However, this year, the story is different.

Malnad regions, spread over districts like Chikmagalur, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu, Mysore, Uttara Kannada, Hassan, Dharwad, Haveri among others, rarely registered temperatures beyond 30 degree Celsius, and at the most, touching 33 degree Celsius. However, the meteorological department has predicted that the average temperature in these districts will rise to 35 to 36 degree in the next few days. The people of these regions, who are accustomed to temperate climate, will come under extreme heat.

The expected temperatures in these districts in the remaining days of the week are Chikmagalur (35), Chamarajanagar (36), Mysore, Hassan and Mandya (35), and Bangalore (35). Shimoga district too will witness temperature of around 35 degree, the department has assessed. Districts like Chitradurga, Davangere, Kolar etc., which are in the plains, temperature will rise to around 37 degree Celsius. Temperatures in other districts like Bellary, Raichur, Bidar, Koppal, Gularba etc, will hover around 40 degree Celsius.

The department expects rains to visit only Mandya district during this week. However, some places in the districts located in southern hinterland may get rain if the heat increases, as showers are normally experienced when heat reaches around 36 percent in these districts.
