Bantwal, May 10: “Religious and social welfare organizations are essentially working for social development,” said Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore diocese.

He was speaking after inaugurating the new building block of St Anthony’s Aided Higher Primary and High School, Mother of God English Medium Higher Primary School, Mogarnad, near here, on Monday May 9.

“Christian missionaries have responded to the societal needs such as health and education of people, with their sacrifices and human virtues,” added the Bishop.

He urged the people not to listen to the allegations of conversion by a few groups.

MLA Ramanat Rai, who was the chief guest on the occasion, unveiled the plaque.

He said that literacy can lead to an oppression-free society.

Former MLA K Padmanabha Kottari lauded the contributions of the Christian community in the health and education sphere in the country.

Mangalore provincial Ursuline Franciscan Superior General Sr Lenita D’Souza, Dolphy Prashant D’Souza, and Annapoorneshwari temple managing trustee Chandrahas Shetty Bolantoor conveyed their best wishes.

Modankap parish priest Fr Roque D’Souza, zilla panchayat member Chandraprakash Shetty, taluk panchayat member Pushpavati, Ida Suresh, Laveena D’Souza, donors Lilly Rodrigues and Alphonse Pasanna, and Mother of God School head teacher Jayabharati were present on the dais.

Fr Wilson Vitus D’Souza, secretary, Catholic Board of Education, Mangalore, felicitated Bishop D’SOuza on completing 15 years as Bishop of Mangalore.

The school’s correspondent Fr Leo Lobo honoured the donors on the same occasion.

Mogarnad parish council vice-president Anthony D’Souza introduced the guests.  St Anthony’s Higher Primary School head teacher Sr Inet D’Souza welcomed the gathering.  St Anthony’s High School acting head master R K Sharma proposed the vote of thanks.  Noel Lobo and Vinod compered the programme.

Cultural programmes were staged by the students after the stage programme.

Another feather to education and social work by missionaries in India. Congratulations Rev.Fr.Leo and Parishioners.

Very good comments by Kurt Waschnig, Oldenburg/Germany, living far away from India, you observe, understand and appreciate the great work done by Christian religious leaders to society.

Religious and social welfare organizations have done so much for social development in India.
The Catholic church runs elderly homes, orphanages, schools across India and gives human beings shelter, health care and educates young people.
Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza says "“Christian missionaries have responded to the societal needs such as health and education of people, with their sacrifices and human virtues", that is true and lots of Catholic priests and nuns especially from Kerala live and work in different parts of India and encourage and help the poorest and give them self-esteem and a meaning of life.
The Catholic church should launch more English medium schools for the poor and offer them the possibility to achieve a high command over English and qualify them for well paid jobs.
It is essential to the poor to go to school, to be literate.
Literacy can lead to an oppression-free society.
Educated poor people are able to do a lot for others in the country, in the villages, in the cities.
The poorest of the poor have legal rights to fight legally and peacefully for their rights.
The Ursuline Franciscan in Mangalore sent nuns to Germany. They work in Cologne and Essen.
Germans wo meet Indian nuns think highly of them.
The contributions of Christians in the health and education sphere in India are tremendous.
Human dignity, education and a meaning of life strengthens the poor.

    Best regards
