Mysore: Unusual Accident Takes Away Prarthana Shenoy’s Life

Daijiworld Media Network – Mysore (SP)

Mysore, May 12:  Prarthana Shenoy (38), wife of Gopalakrishna Shenoy from Mangalore, lost her life in a fateful accident that occurred on national highway 212 at Gundlupet in the district. She was on her way to Ooty along with other family members and relatives, when the accident occurred.

The families of Gopalakrishna Shenoy and his brother, Ganeshprasad Senoy, were on a visit to Ooty.  At the time their Innova car was moving in front of V A M Hospital in Gundlupet, a huge banyan tree standing by the side of the highway was being cut down. The owner of a timber depot had obtained the right to uproot the tree in an auction conducted by the forest department. Reportedly, those who were felling the tree, and the policemen standing guard at the site, signalled Ganeshprasad Shenoy, who was driving the car, to stop the vehicle. As the vehicle was moving fast, and also as the driver was concentrating on the road ahead, signals made by those standing away from the road perhaps were not noticed. When the car reached near the tree, the tree suddenly fell across it. Noticing it at the last minute, the driver swerved the car to the right, but could not avoid the tree from scraping through the backside of the car.

Prarthana, who was sitting on the rear seat, suffered critical injury to her head in the accident. She was immediately rushed to a private hospital in the city, but she could not be saved.

A case was registered in Gundlupet police station in this connection. The policemen have launched a hunt for the owner of the timber depot for not taking proper precautions while cutting down the tree as per rules. After the accident, traffic on the road went haywire for some time, before the police restored normalcy.

The people in the town have squarely put the blame on those who cut down the tree for criminal negligence in causing this accident. There is a need to be extra cautious while felling trees standing by the sides of the highways, as vehicles zoom through at great speed, and hence, the tree cutters need to take every precaution to ensure that no lives are lost.

When this incident took place, we were on our way to Mysore. This terrible news disturbed all of us. We all are in some way or the other, part of this blame game. We do not believe in preventive measures. Look at the way the highways dug up (BC Road stretch/Padil Maroli stretch). Neither RTO nor Police Dept. is caring enough to workout preventive measures. Most basic thing, high beam head lights of motor vehicles/buses are issues which are to be addressed. We do not talk about it, until it becomes an issue, an accident and death. These motor vehicles are to be stopped by the RTO and fined. Instead, you will find RTO, negotiating and collecting bribe according to their needs. Prarthana is a victim of our careless attitude.

the loss of mother to a kid..daughter to parents..sibling to other siblings, loved one to friends is inevitable...Ted put it right...prayers to almighty to guide this family and friends through this sad event. Act now to prevent such mishaps in future...forest department is at fault along with the those contractor..there should be qualification to enter such auctions and only those with established safety record, right tools and equipments should be allowed to work on the premises..the RTO and police should be notified in advance and alternate routing should be provided prior to cutting trees on major roads used by public..This could have happened to anyone. Fate is changed by collective good deeds such as adhering to good ways.

The contractor who took the contract for cutting tree, must be punished with a life sentence for the negligence. If he continues to live outside, then he will prove dangerous, by bagging more contracts and will not care for life of others...

We pay for someones mistake, saying sorry later is not the answer, human life is precious but made to look cheap by wasted interest people ,businessmen and currupt Govts. All these happens due flouting environment and safety rules, adopting short cuts . May her Soul Rest in Peace!!

Such an avoidable mishap. Shows there is no value for human life in India. Here in India we can only pray that we be just lucky enough to avoid any such mishap which could happen to anyone. someone elses mistake can really cause extreme danger on Indian road !

If only the contractor and authorities were careful this could have been avoided..there must be some set of rules which these reckless people must have not followed..On NH even a small such development can put so many lives in danger..

Sad that the family and especially the husband and kids would have to do without their closest person henceon..Prarthana i wish your soul R.I.P

May her Soul Rest in Peace and I pray god to give enough strength to her family and relatives to bear the irrepairable Loss.

This is typical Indian form of negligience. No care about Human lives, safety, hazard and warning signals in India and among Indians. Atleast now we need to develop awarness and take extreme precautions while working in public places.

Our heartfelt condolences to Mr. Gopalkrishna shenoy and his family members on the sad demise of Mrs Prashanta shenoy. May the almighty god, rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant the bereaved family members the courage and strenth to endure this immeasurable loss.
The negligence and the carelessness is some limit. Concdrned authorities should have a plan and procedure before carrying out this type of work. Failure in safety, they should have blocked the road for certain time,

For obtaining contract he might have paid hefty sums to the concerned Forest Dept. officials, withought this kind of corruption it is not easy ultimately to get a contract. Naturally, his aim is to save with least expenses involved. Hence, put some blame on corrupt officials also.

In the first place I pray to God to give eternal rest to Prarthana's life.
In the 21st century if a person loses life in this type of incident it just shows negligence and not anything else.
In Gulf if there is some work going on on the roads they put danger sign at least half a kilometer ahead of that work to alert motorists.
At least from now the Road transport authority in India should wake up to prevent any mishappening of this kind.

What a Tragedy? The people who were involved in uprooting the tree should have put up reflective danger signals much ahead of the place and blocked the road. This is pure negligence which has cost a precious life.
