M'lore: Education Can Never Be Business But Social Transformation Tool - AICC Gen Sec Hariprasad

Mangalore, May 16: Education can never be equated to business and it should always remain a tool to create social awareness and development, said All India Congress Committee general secretary B K Hariprasad.

He was speaking at the Teachers and Workers' Association Convention organized by Narayana Guru Youth Wing at the Town Hall here on Sunday May 15. He also gave away Brahmashree gold medals to the talented students who scored over 90% in SSLC examinations on the occasion. "For education to be a tool of awareness selfless service is very important. In this backdrop, it becomes government's duty to see that the education sector is not commercialized," he added.

Former union minister and Congress leader B Janardan Poojary inaugurated the convention.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that only good education will lead to formation of good society. Hence there is a need for founding of more quality educational institutions, he added.

kannada cine actor Vijay Raghavendra symbolically passed the message on the importance of education through hitting on a cymbal and also released the souvenir, Brahmashree.

Guruvandana was held for Bantwal Rani Abbakka Study Centre director Prof Tukaram Poojary and litterateur Janaki Brahmavar. APMC member Neelaiah Agari and taluk panchayat president K Rohini were honoured.

Narayana Guru Vedike president Shridhar Enmakaje presided. District in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, Mangalore United team owner Moideen Bava, cine actor Suryoday Perampalli and former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake among others were present.
