Mangaluru, Dec 6: The construction of plastic park, a much awaited demand of coastal region is about to begin. Once the tender process is over, the work order will be given soon.
The project is set up on 104 acre of land on the second phase of EPIP (Export promotion Industrial park) at a cost of Rs 100 crore at Ganjimath of the taluk.
The road construction contract is awarded to Udaya Shetty and building construction contract to Sujay Kumar Shetty. They will be given work orders towards the end of December.
The work will begin in January 2023 and will take one-and-half years to complete.
Mangaluru Plastic park project of union chemical and pharmaceutical ministry is being implemented by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB). This includes road, drainage, water, solid waste management, electricity supply, telecommunication, information technology, buildings. In addition, CIPET will be established here which includes a training centre and warehouse.
After the infrastructure is built, the plots will be given to interested investors. Plots will be available from half acre to one-and-half acre as per demand of the industrialists. In total there will be 50 plots according to information given by KIADB executive engineer Dattari.
This is a dream project of Late Anantkumar, former union minister for chemical and fertilizers. In 2014, after assuming charge as minister, when he had visited Mangaluru, he had announced the plastic park, responding to the appeal of industrialists of the city. Later, D V Sadananda Gowda, who was a minister, had approved the project.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had done the correspondence in order to implement the project fast. Eight years have passed by to get the various processes approved by the government.
