Udupi, Dec 30: A two-wheeler rider and a two-year-old child were critically injured in a head-on collision between a car and a two-wheeler near Mangilaru cross, Hirgana village, Karkala on Friday morning, December 30.

The injured rider is identified as Nithyananda Kulal (32), a resident of Kondalke, Andaru village. The child who sustained injuries was also travelling with him on the two-wheeler. Both of them have been admitted to a private hospital in Karkala.

The bike rider was heading towards Andaru from Karkala along with the child of his sister when a speeding Baleno car approaching from Hebri in an attempt to avoid a collision with another vehicle approaching from the front turned to the right and hit the two-wheeler driven by Kulal. The bike got mangled due to the impact of the accident.

The mishap is likely to have occurred in an effort to prevent a series of accidents, it is said.

Four vehicles were approaching from Hebri together. The vehicle in the front tried to turn to the left and the speeding vehicle behind it hit the first vehicle. Meanwhile, another vehicle behind this also dashed against the second one. But Nikhil, the vehicle driver behind those vehicles, suddenly turned his vehicle to the right to avoid hitting the vehicle in the front ending up hitting the bike.

But it is said that the faultless bike rider and the child suffered critical injuries due to overspeeding and negligent driving of other vehicles.

A case in this connection is registered at Karkala town police station.
