Kuwait, May 28: Like-minded people from North Kanara under the guidance of Sr Carmel Ann gathered together at the Carmel School basement to form a first-ever Konkani speaking North Kanara Association in Kuwait on Friday May 27.

The event started with a formal introduction by compere of the day Vanessa and Alex, followed by lighting of lamp by Sam Alphonso and his wife, Sr Maria Lytta, Sr Carmel Ann and Joseph D’Souza.

Sr Carmel Ann read the message from bishop of Karwar Rev Derrick Fernandes. A prayer was led by Grace Fernandes along with hymns by Sera Alphonso and Aldrich Fernandes.

Sr Carmel Ann welcomed the gathering. Lady Sam Alphonso asked the gathering to be part of the association and lend a helping hand in good work.

She also asked everyone to remain grounded despite reaching a higher level. Don't forget the past days, she added.

Ramona Fernandes explained the purpose and formally announced the formation of the new association "North Kanara Association of Kuwait". This covers people from places like Karwar, Sirsi, Mundgod, Haliyal, Jorda, Siddapur, Ankola, Bhatkal, Dandeli, Yellapur, Kumta and Honnavar.

A short cultural programme was arranged in which Sera Alphonso, Arron Alphonso, Andrea D’Souza and Adrich Fernandes sung selected English numbers. Diego Borges, Alex and Johnny entertained the crowd with Konkani songs. A Konkani skit ‘Kazar Muje’ was staged by Mclean, Santhosh, Marshal, Ashu, Sheetal, Wilson and Blossom.

A housie-housie game too was played to keep the audience entertained. Joseph D’Souza thanked the gathering. The well-arranged programme concluded with delicious lunch.

I am very happy to note that the North Kanarites have united themselves under one banner to show-case their unity, talents and achievements. Surely the help of Mr.Sam Alphonso in the past to sponsor many from N.Kanara for jobs in the Gulf cannot be forgotten. You have the blessings of your Bishop, Most Rev.Derek Fernandes and the former Bishop, Most Rev.William D'Mello to support and guide you. Do keep me too in your prayers. Sr.Carmel Ann AC has done well to take the lead to organise the N.Kanarites. Keep the association flag flying high !

Congratulations to ths organizers of North Kanara Association, another additional feather to the bonnet of India in the Gulf region. Its nice to create more and more associations so long as we have the sufficient support, time and effort in addition to so many communal activities that keep sprouting throughout the Gulf region. Too many communal involvements might one day take away the momentum of enjoying the privilege of being "one UNITED India" outside our beloved country.

It is our sincere hope that all these community associations, both old and new, are all formulated and streamlined under one "India Culture Center" of Kuwait so that with the spirit of "All India United front" our country will enjoy a long lasting joint solidarity. This is purely a humble suggestion and observation which kindly accept in the good spirit that it is meant.
