Mangaluru, Jan 29: "The family members of slain Fazil will get compensation from the government. His name is included in a list of compensation, said MLA Dr Bharath Y Shetty.

He was answering queries by media persons regarding compensation for slain Fazil's family of Surathkal during the Meet the Press programme organised by the Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Association and Mangaluru Press Club here on Tuesday, January 31.

To a question regarding why he had failed to visit the residence of Fazil after the murder, Bharath Shetty said that there was credible information that if he had visited the residence the situation could worsen and hence he did not go.

He refused to comment on VHP's Sharath Pumpwell's statement that Fazil was killed as a revenge for Praveen Nettaru's murder, stating that he had no knowledge of that comment.

Spreaking on development works in his constituency, the MLA said, "Only a few wards of MCC in my constituency are in tune with the Smart City Project. Extra funds for complete development from the government have been sought for the completion of development works on Tannirbhavi beach by providing good amenities to tap its potential as a rich tourist destination."

Dr Bharath said that the process of developing Tannirbhavi into Blue Flag standards work started at an estimated cost of Rs 7.5 crore, which would be used to provide various basic amenities, including toilets, changing rooms and security personnel.

Another Rs 9.5 crores will be sought from Mangaluru Smart City Ltd funds to undertake further development works around Tannirbhavi beach including development of Nair Kudru. For the complete development of Tannirbhavi beach and Nair Kudru it may require Rs 40 crores, he said.

He also spoke on the development of Idya beach and Panambur beach.

MLA also added that due to the rainy season and the pandemic the development work had come to a halt. "All interior roads in rural areas and the city limits corporation have been developed during my tenure. I have personally spoken to the neighbouring MLAs to provide drinking water to the houses. As many as 6,455 title deeds pending from the past 25 to 30 years have been given to the beneficiaries. Total emphasis has been laid on the development of the constituency through various projects," Bharath Shetty said.
