Sullia, Feb 3: Though government approval was given for construction of well-equipped Ambedkar Bhavan in the reserve legislative constituency of Sullia, the work is still not completed.

Due to lack of funds, the work is limping. Thorns and bushes have grown around the building. The iron rods of the pillar are rusted. The area looks like that of some ancient remains.

Six-time MLA and present minister S Angara had got the approval for Ambedkar Bhavan. But as the grant was not released by the government on time, the work is progressing at snail’s pace.

Proposal at a cost of Rs three crore was submitted to the government. The social welfare department released Rs 1.5 crore and the work started. Later, Rs 14 lac was granted from the MLA’s fund. After that, the work literally stopped.

Angara ordered the release of Rs two crore from the concerned department. However, the grant is not yet released. Now a fresh proposal to release Rs 1.6 crore is submitted.

Public of Sullia say that the government, people representatives and the social welfare department should work in unison and get the project completed soon.

The work which was stopped for a long period began last week. As there is no water to continue work, a borewell was drilled and iron ore is also procured for building work.

Minister Angara said, “A well-equipped Ambedkar Bhavan is my dream. I have instructed concerned officers to complete the work as soon as possible. As the grants are delayed, work also is pending. I will speak with the minister of the concerned department and get the grant released.”
