Mangaluru, Mar 19: With water and foodborne illnesses on the rise during the summer season, DC Ravikumar M R has instructed canteens, food outlets, hotels, bars, and bakeries selling ready-made food to maintain strict hygiene standards to protect public health.
In a press note, the DC stated, "Food entrepreneurs should ensure that their water sources, such as tanks, open wells, and borewells, are clean. Food must be stored at room temperature, and boiled and filtered water should be provided to customers for drinking. Cooks must maintain personal hygiene by wearing hand gloves, aprons, and head covers."
The note further states that "prepared food should be protected from flies and insects, and vegetables and fruits should be stored correctly. Ice should be made using clean water, and fresh fish and meat sellers must ensure that their products are not rotten while selling."
The DC also stated that "all grocery stores, hostels, homestays with cooking facilities, hotels, canteens, bars, and bakery owners must have a mandatory registration certificate and permission from the food safety and quality authority."
The RTO has also urged all bus owners to provide drinking water to passengers during the summer season.
