Mangaluru/Bantwal /Sullia, Mar 30: In the wake of the Karnataka state assembly elections, police have increased checking at border check-posts between Karnataka and Kerala states.
In Bantwal, check-posts are established at Saradka, Anekallu, Kanyana, Salethuru and Medu. Vehicle checking is intensified. Bantwal PWD department also inspected the check-post in order to build sheds at these check-posts.
On March 27, Rs 1.5 lac unaccounted cash was found at Medu check post. Banners are already removed in areas including B C Road by gram panchayat officers and PDOs.
MLA Rajesh Naik vacated his MLA office on Wednesday. Foundation laying ceremony was done before the announcement of election code of conduct. The inauguration ceremony which was slated for afternoon was cancelled. Check post is installed at Farangipet.
Under Sullia taluk limits, checking is intensified at Kallugundi district border check post, Sampaje forest check post, Jalsooru police check post, Narkodu state border post near Aletti and Mandekolu check posts.
CC cameras are installed at all check posts. Senior police officers including SP visited the area recently. Sullia taluk has Kerala state border that enters into Kasargod. Special monitoring is done on vehicles that arrive from and go to Kerala. Patrolling is also increased throughout the taluk to prevent any illegal activity.
Police have made Nakabandi at Karnataka-Kerala border area that falls under Ullal and Konaje police station limits. Check posts are opened at seven spots, in addition to one commissionerate and one district check points. The main check post is opened at Talapady toll gate. All vehicles arriving from Kerala are double-checked. Another check post is opened at Devipura road.
A checkpost is opened near Cheloor which is the border area of Boliyaru village that falls under Konaje police station limits which belongs to Mangaluru commissionerate.
