Mangaluru, Apr 6: The city is known as an educational hub as students from across the country come here for their studies and to build their future.

As Dakshina Kannada district shares its border with the neighbouring state of Kerala, several students from the state, in majority numbers, pursue their studies in institutions here and also work in many sectors which includes banks, railway stations, and hospitals.

The netizens are not happy the way students of Kerala origin are violating rules, especially the traffic ones. Students using Kerala (KL)-registered two wheelers are roaming free violating traffic rules. They are ruthless and are reportedly do not fear the police personnel. Many dare to violate traffic rules right under the nose of the police officers.

During the peak time, the students are constantly seen violating traffic rules at places like Kankanady, Kulur, Jyothi, Morgansgate, Ballalbagh and Pandeshwar. One can see all types of violation like triple-riding with no helmet, no number plates, rash driving and many more.

Police need to keep an eye on KL-registered vehicles

Police personnel need to keep an eye on KL-registered vehicles and take action against them.

They have to take control over such violations and instill awareness among students.

Students need to be serious, responsible

The students need to be very serious in following traffic rules when it comes to wearing helmet. Many wear helmet to avoid fines than for their own safety.

Every student has to take responsibility towards their safety as well as strictly follow the traffic rules.

Recently, a 20-year-old student lost his life at Bejai after his head banged into a tree. The victim would have probably saved his life if he would worn a helmet.

Known star Aravind Bolar met with an accident recently and luckily escaped with minor injuries. Thanks to his helmet.

Several questions are being raised by people in Mangaluru as to why rules are not applicable for KL-registered vehicles as the violations are easily visible. Many even ask if Karnataka police are restricted from checking vehicles from outside the state.

Surprisingly, many students are seen riding their two-wheelers without helmets right in front of Police station at Pandeshwar.

There is an urgent need to conduct a thorough check against traffic violations in prime locations of Mangaluru. In addition, the police departments can associate with educational institutions to create awareness on traffic rules.

DCP crime and traffic Dinesh Kumar said, “We have observed KL-registered vehicles violating traffic rules. Whenever we spot violations, we impose fine or file cases. We will look into conducting a drive regarding the issue and also create awareness in the coming days.”

Lane discipline is kind off lost with people here. Indicators on their vehicles are never used. Three wheeler and two wheeler and not to forget the buses used for commuting halt where they want and when they want. Turn to whatever side is feasible to them without indicating thier intention. Person driving or riding behind should be very vigilant o guess thier intention or else none can stop them from banging onto the other vehicle. Riding without helmet is common scene unfortunately police can't pin down everyone but the people who they get hold are guys who aren't smart enough to dodge them and end up paying hefty amount, the real culprits somehow escape. Recent development of traffic signal near Kankanady is a mess cause people are absolutely unaware of the traffic line where they are supposed to stop thier vehicles when the signal is red causing nuisance to the passing traffic. And wonder why people consider night time to be helmet free time. They absolutely not wear their helmet at night when there are no police. People should realise that helmet and seat belts are for their own safety and not someone else's pressure.

On KSRTC /Bejai road wrong side driving by 2 wheelers has become a common occurence. The riders take a right turn in front of SIRI outlet and travel upto Bharatinagar cross or further. This is due to the fact that next right turn is near Bejai circle. Traffic police turn a blind a blind eye. This not only creates traffic vows but also risky for pedestrians.

KL registered vehicles, KL bank employees.....all are same. No fear of the law or respect for the locals. Due to lack of opportunities in their state, these Fellows come here to study or earn their livelihood but behave as if they own this place .

This is the result of their upbringing in KL. In early childhood they are taught Mallus are very intelligent people, others are fools. But those born and brought up in Mumbai and Gulf are well mannered since they live in a mixed society.

Mr. Tauro, you are free to live with your wrong notion..... The real reason is Keralites (or rather Malayalis) are united by language whereas Kannadigas are divided by Religion , Caste, Creed and what not..... Hence it is very easy for any other State people to take advantage in Karnataka..... By the way, we are proud of our upbringing where our parents did not inject the venom of Religion at young age..... If the Traffic Police is inefficient, why blaming the KL vehicles..... every one should be booked irrespective of KL, KA or any other registration

It is very racist to selective pick KL registered vehicles and paint them all with the same brush. Traffic rule violaters shud be punished/fined irrespective of whatever the number plate of the vehicle is.
