Mangaluru, Apr 7: As the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the dates for the Karnataka assembly elections on May 10, it has also developed the cVIGIL application to report the violations of the model code of conduct in the constituencies. But unfortunately, in the application, preference has not been given for Kannada language. There is no Kannada in the option while choosing the language after downloading the application.

In the application, there is a provision to choose other languages including English, but Kannada is not included.

Though the ECI has announced that the application is handy for citizens to file complaints against the violation of model code of conduct, there is no provision made for a regional language where the elections are going to be held within a few days.

Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a person said, "People in the public domain question how a common man from Karnataka can file a complaint against the violation of the model code of conduct when there is no option for the regional language. When provisions are made for other languages, why is Kannada language left out?"

The model code of conduct is in place in the state after the announcement of elections.

Through the cVIGIL application, one can record videos or click photos of candidates or their followers while offering cash or gifts to citizens to obtain votes.
