Puttur, Apr 10: Though 10 years have elapsed after the gruesome gas tanker tragedy that occurred on April 9, 2013 at Perne near Uppinangady, in which 13 people belonging to various families died and many got injured, the psychological scars of the tragic mishap still remain in memory.

A gas tanker that was carrying cooking gas from Mangaluru to Bengaluru overturned at Perne bend and gas started to leak, which immediately caught fire. The fire spread rapidly and people living in nearby houses and shops got burnt. Nine people, including women and children died on the spot, while four injured succumbed to burns later in the hospital.

A heart wrenching video in which a youth, whose clothes were completely burnt and half of body on fire, running on highway screaming to save his life had left many people teary-eyed.

This fire accident had occurred immediately after the village daiva had warned of an imminent disaster as its reverence was stopped by the villagers.
