Solar Eclipse Treat for Antartica Penguins

New Delhi, Jul 1: On Friday, the penguins in Antartica were perhaps the luckiest creatures in the world.

A partial solar eclipse occured on Friday at 1.23 pm IST that was visible only on the coast of Antartica. It lasted for more than an hour and ended at 2.53 pm.

The eclipse was seen on the coast of Antarctica, where the South Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet.

Science Popularisation Association of Communicators and Educators (SPACE) had earlier issued a statement: "Such a remote and isolated path means that it may very well turn out to be the solar eclipse that nobody sees other then a few penguins and leopard seals."

This was the third partial solar eclipse this year. The next one will occur on November 25.
