Mangaluru: Man cheated of Rs 1.14 lac on pretext of providing part-time job

Mangaluru, Apr 16: A man, who believed a message that promised him a part-time job on his Telegram account, went on to lose Rs 1.14 lac.

A case has been registered at the CEN police station in this connection.

On February 5, the victim received a message about a part-time job opening. On inquiry, the sender said that it is a movie rating job. Later a link was sent to the victim and the sender asked him to open and install the same and watch the video and also rate the movie.

On February 6, the victim received a link to a movie. According to the instructions of the stranger, the victim opened the link, watched the videos and gave his ratings accordingly. A commission of Rs 1,000 commission was sent to the victim.

The victim was then asked to remit Rs 10,500 to continue with the part-time job. Accordingly, the victim deposited the amount. On the same day, the victim was asked to deposit another instalment of Rs 29,936 to get more commission. The victim deposited the said amount as well.

On February 7, when the victim opened the app, the sender demanded for more money and the victim sent another Rs 74,465. When the victim tried to withdraw the commission, the stranger kept demanding for more money. Then the victim realised that he had been taken for a ride.

Two separate complaints were filed by the victim with the National Cyber crime reporting portal. Accordingly, when the victim checked on a cyber portal, cyber crime police had withheld Rs 1.14 lac that was deposited by the victim in tranches. In his second complaint, the victim has asked the authorities to take suitable action against the accused and also get a refund of the money that he had deposited.

    Digital India has unwittingly produced a parallel economy of one sees the number of "high volume" (lac and above) cheating cases! This is the result of sudden introduction of total digital economy in a predominantly educationally backward population!! This digital economy has ruined the life of multitude of gullible and poor people of this country!!
