Mumbai, Jul 8: Heavy downpour in Mumbai over the past two days has created innumerable problems for the citizens who are being forced to struggle through inundated streets and water-logged areas. Commuters and pedestrians have been having a tough time going about their day, and even rail and air traffic have been affected.

Train services were delayed for about 15 minutes causing inconvenience to the commuters. Road and air traffic were also affected by the incessant rains.

A Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) official said that due to sudden drop in invisibility, flight operations had to be suspended for a short while.

The Meteorological Department here, recorded rainfall of 162.8 mm in Colaba and 116 mm of rainfall in Santacruz on Friday July 8.

In areas like Vileparle, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Andheri, Malad, Dharavi and a few others, there were complaints of water logging. In Sion, cars were damaged when trees fell over them.

Officials said that no incidents of walls caving in have been reported.

The weather bureau has forecasted heavy to very heavy showers to occur in parts of the city.

Meanwhile, for Bollywood celebrities, it was time to narrate their experiences on Twitter.

"From Juhu 2 airport have been on the road for 2 hours already. Mumbai breaks down in rains," Shekhar Kapur said on his Twitter page.

Lara Dutta would love to trek, except for her hair: "Can hear a good monsoon trek in the ghats calling! Time 2 stretch those muscles and put them 2 some use! Muscles r ready, hair is complaining!"

Bipasha Basu exclaimed that the scene resembled Venice, and that she only had to switch her car for a Gondola and driver for a handsome gondola guy.

Rain did not stop fashion designer Manish Malhotra from making his way to film city through the slushy streets, enjoying his music.

Arshad Warsi got quite poetic: "Gd mrng ppl of the wrld... the cool breeze, the haze, n the washed leaves is what I got up to... Monsoons in Mumbai, the other season."

"It was squash and cricket with the lads yesterday. with large amounts of water raining down, water polo it is for today," wrote Rahul Bose, known for his enthusiasm for sports.

Indeed, good or bad, rain is a unifier!

Rudolf Rodrigues, Bantwal/Mumbai when nagesh nayak gives silly comments you have problem, but when Jossy Saldhana does the same you dont have problem. See in this website there was a news a traffic jam in mangalore due to lorry tyre puncture and the great Jossy Saldhana commenting that this happens only in Karnataka. By reading his comments i feel that he is not matured enough to comment in this forum.

I agree with Jossie's comments. Mumbai has one of the highest density of population in the world (current population of Gr. Mumbai 1.3cr). Any city in the world would come to its knees if it faces concentrated rain of 6 inches in a matter of 24 hours with the sea not accepting the water due to high tide. It is the spirit and never say die attitude of the people of Mumbai that there was very little disruption in transportation or other activities despite such heavy flooding....

RAJ ULLAL, Mangalore i agree with you. When such news comes about Karnataka he will jump in and comment and blame Yeddy BJP like anything. Now where is he? Seems to be disappeared? Now he cant blame Yeddy for this as Mumbai is in Maharastra and congress govt is ruling over there. This type of problem is there in most of the cities of india and concerned state govt should take neccessary steps to prevent such type of havoc.

Mumbai is the Business Capital of India and is also one of the most populated cities in the World.
Current population is around 20 million with an alarming density of over 30,000 people per square KM.
Majority of this population is migrants from other states of India which has crumpled the administration.
We cannot stop this migration so we live with these problems and we are not the No.1 city in the world.
