Mangalore: Volvo Buses Between City and Airport from July 15

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jul 12: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will begin running Volvo buses from its bus stand to the airport in Bajpe via Kadri, with effect from July 15. This was stated by Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner, N S Channappa Gowda, at the quarterly progress review meeting held under Karnataka Development Programme here on Monday July 11. He also said that the service will be further extended after monitoring initial response, depending on demand. The meeting was held in the auditorium of the zilla panchayat.

The meeting was presided over by minister, Krishna J Palemar. The minister had sought compliance report on the decisions made at the previous meeting for running KSRTC buses to rural places where there is demand, and about appointment of drivers. Responding to the query, representative of KSRTC stated that steps have been taken to recruit adequate drivers, and that bus services will be introduced wherever there is demand for them.

Noting that this is just the repetition of promises being made at every meeting since the last three meetings, MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, and deputy speaker of the state assembly, N Yoigish Bhat, urged the KSRTC officials to swing into action and run buses on the basis of need for the benefit of people. To this, regional transport officer, Mallikarjun, said that this issue will be discussed at the meeting of the regional transport office being held on July 18 for discussing public grievances.

Airport director, M R Vasudeva, sought proper infrastructure towards making transformation of the airport into an international airport happen at the earliest. Assistant commissioner of Mangalore subdivision, Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, clarified that survey is going on for the runway extension, and that the state government has already earmarked a sum of Rs 16 crore out of   a total amount of Rs 52 crore needed for land acquisition towards runway extension, and rehabilitation of the displaced families.

Issuance of house numbers to those who have built houses on government land also became fodder for discussion at the said meeting. Responding to the demand of MLA, Abhhay Chandra Jain, to at least issue temporary door numbers to such families, Palemar explained that the system of issuing temporary door numbers after collecting double the amount of house tax is in vogue in cities, and asked the zilla panchayat to pass a resolution in its general session to adopt the same procedure in rural areas, and forward the resolution for further action to the government.

District health officer confirmed that no H1N1 cases have so far been detected during this season in the district. He was reassuring the members, who expressed concerns about the swine flu scare in Udupi district.

Zilla panchayat president, Shylaja Bhat, vice-president, Dhanalakshmi, city corporation commissioner, Vijay Prakash, and chairpersons of various standing committees of zilla panchayat were present at the meeting.

Good luck and looking for more international flights to mlore so our more products can be reached to many parts of the globe ,keep it up .

This is tragedy and goes on to show how the system in our country operates. Airport City is it really a situation that needs the Volvo in reality?
You have many places like Manipal and beyond , people living there are the one's that needed the Volvo , not Mangalore town. I pray that wisdom works and people of Karnataka come to know that by getting the BJP in power, they have done harm not only o those who voted these blokes to power but destroyed the joy and happiness of many in the state.

Guys Nobody is trying to divide communities, we the people who stay in interior places and villages dont have proper street lights, no power, no roads & no transport facilities etc. for power projects they want villages and for the development u need cities...have the govt ever tried to peep what is progess in remote areas..when the election comes they come like beggers and after tht they dont ever dare to show their face. Infact KSRTC is doing a good job, but this will no where help the needy people from remote areas. Infact the people who have casted their vote to the Govt are feeling the pain & heat. My suggestion is that we should stop casting our votes to any political party in tulunad unless our demands are met and all the elections should be banned..jai tulu nadu & jai karnataka

Please don’t blame politicians because there are honestly busy with making money for them and their familys.another thing politician never cheat who given vote to them, the cheater is who is ing politician, now the days politics party’s are defend to religion.so public never look candidate(educated or he is able to run government) they will look only party’s(religion).
I don’t think so we will get good political party in India, all party’s are selfish.
In-between running government doing little good, like Volvo bus service to bajpe airport. If we get another bus from kundapura to airport it’s really helpful for Udupi District Peoples.

This is a very good move by the authorities. I think we should extend to upto karwar in the north and upto Kasargod in the south. I think the bags from the middle east are limited to 32 kgs and one with 8 to 10 kgs, that is total 40 to 42 kgs, and a hand bag which will weigh 8kgs while checking in, and 25 to 30 kgs while boarding the Plane. People will just buy from the duty free as much as they can. When three or four bottles of boose is brought they dont know that their carry bag will be marked.Any way hope it will be a good move to introduce the KSRTC buses.

Volvo bus from Mangalore to the airport is a good move but bad planning. The bus should start from Mangalore Central Railway Station and there should be another and Pick stop at Nanthoor-Kadri Park area.
Mangalore Central Railway Authority as well as the MUDA should provide land to develop two international standard waiting lounges for flight-passengers with Wi-Fi connectivity from the airport announcing system to these lounges. Mangalore Central is ideal for train passengers and Kadri region is ideal for passengers coming by bus from South (Kasargod) region as well as from North (Udupi) region. These lounges should have reservation counters for advance booking and only flight passengers with boarding pass and their limited number of accompanying wards should be permitted to board the bus.

Good move by the our authorities. Let us see whether this route is good for air passengers and also for the KSRTC. The bus must run at least 80% of passengers to work-out the cost of operatin. Foot path is not reuired for this bus to run. Let municipality arrange foot path. Please forward your complaints to Mangalore municipality. KSRTC can not provide this facility to villages due to insufficient passengers thereby incuring losses. Since Mangaore is well-connected to Udipi, Manipal, Bantwal and Puttur with express busses, KSRTC does not want to spoil the business of these bus owners. Now let us start from Mangalore. After some time we will see from Udipi and Manipal. Let Airport taxi owners also earn little. We have the choice of travelling as per our pockets.

It is really sad that even common people reading these articles are making communal and political statements. Where did community and politics come in all this? The district Deputy commissioner and The airport director have been doing some good work, let us appreciate them for the service they are trying to provide. Which ever party comes to power they only come with vested interests. it is people like Mr. Vasudeva who come with real goals to achive for the common people, let us appreciate them for once. Also KSRTC is the best state road transport in the whole of the country, and this is irrespective of the government in power in the state, so let us appreciate the guys down at KSRTC who have achieved this by their hard work and are striving to maintain the same, let us for once give them the respect they deserve and not bring in community and politics.
