Kundapur, Jun 11: Kundapura Tahsildar Shobhalakshmi said that "Shakti" scheme which has been launched in the state on Sunday, is mandatory for every eligible beneficiary to get a Shakti card within the next three months.
She was speaking on behalf of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation Mangaluru Division after inaugurating the "Shakti Yojana" at Kundapura Government Bus Stand which allows free travel for women in city transport, regular and express government buses across Karnataka.
The scheme has started from today, women travelers have to show the documents of their temporary stay in Karnataka to the bus conductor. Conductor will hand over a free ticket to the women passengers, which should be carried till the end of their journey, she said.
A large number of women participated in the programme.
Byndoor Tahsildar Shrikant S Hegde, Kundapur sub-inspector of police Eeraiah D N, KSRTC unit manager Rajesh M and Mangaluru division assistant administrative officer Raju were present.
Later, the official launch was done by cutting the ribbon tied to the bus, which was built as part of the "Shakti" project. Later, more than fifty women, including Tehsildar Shobhalakshmi, travelled in two buses from Kundapura bus stand to Thrasi and returned to ensure implementation of the free travel scheme.
AWS Kundapur BT Nayak welcomed. Rajesh Mogaweera welcomed and Yogeesh Bangera proposed the vote of thanks. They celebrated by distributing sweets.
