Kundapur, June 12: Officials set in motion the ambitious state government’s Shakthi scheme that offers free travel for women in government buses yesterday. However none of the elected government representatives were present during the event at Kundapura.

Kundapura has a municipal council and other grama panchayats. It also has a taluk panchayat.

There are BJP MLAs in Kundapura. Taluk panchayat and the municipal council are in the grip of BJP.

It appeared that the hastily organised programme was the cause for their absence. It is said that none of the elected representatives had received formal invitations for the inaugural function.

The officials, however, claimed that they had sent the invitations. Meanwhile. the officials launched the government scheme yesterday.
