Mangaluru, Jun 13: ASHA workers work with responsibility and are much loved by general public. However, they are facing many issues. Many survey works are put on their shoulders without giving proper facility. In addition, they are not paid salaries on time. All ASHA workers got down to streets demanding fulfilment of their requirements.

ASHA workers have to go from house to house in order to complete the survey work. However, inmates of some houses do not respond properly. But the pressure is put on ASHA workers to give accurate results. They have to do their duty irrespective of harsh summer or heavy rains. Awareness on dengue, flu and malaria needs to be created. But they are not paid in commensurate with their work load. This has caused anger and unhappiness among the ASHA workers. They met health and family welfare minister Dinesh Gundu Rao during his Mangaluru visit and urged him to fulfil their various demands.

The ASHA workers also appraised health officer of Dakshina Kannada about their plight. They said, “We are not saying that we will not do any work. But time should be given to conduct surveys. If they are given one after the other without sufficient time, then it becomes difficult. It also becomes difficult for us to do survey work through our own mobile phones. Our actual job is different. But now we are pressurized to do entirely different work. So we are under mental pressure.”

Minister Gundu Rao has assured to look into the woes of ASHA workers and resolve them as soon as possible.
